Lieberman: Palin Will Win "With God's Help"

Via CNN streaming video, I watched Sarah Palin's event in Clearwater, Florida, this morning. She was heartily introduced there by John McCain's pal Joe Lieberman. The former Democrat is a very strange figure these days, far from his moorings in the Democratic Party. But you can see how his personal friendship with McCain, and his genuine support for the Iraq war, might cause him to help out his buddy on the stump.

It was jarring, however, to hear Lieberman's full-throated endorsement of Sarah Palin, a woman with whom he has no prior relationship, and whose policy credentials you have to think the wonky 20-year Senator would find suspect in any other context.

"She's so strong, she's so capable, she's so competent," Lieberman told the cheering crowd. Emphasizing her "faith," he added that she is someone who "with your help--and God's help--will be the next vice president of the United States." More big cheers.

The religiousity continued when Palin bounded onstage. She commented right away on the number of American flags in the crowd, declaring: "God bless America--you guys get it!"

And then it was on with the attacks on Obama: "There are some candidates who use change to promote their careers. And then there are some candidates, like John McCain, who use their careers to promote change," Palin said. She went on to reiterate charges that Obama is friendly with terrorists (Bill Ayers), wants America to lose in Iraq, and smears US troops in Afghanistan.

More: For this heavily churchgoing GOP crowd, Palin is showing a side we haven't seen in her TV interviews and at the debate. Mentioning the potential for wind and solar power in Florida she exclaims: "God has so richly blessed you here!" Between her and Lieberman, that makes four references to faith and God in about five minutes.

P.S. Now playing after her speech: Shania Twain's "She's Not Just a Pretty Face."

I'm so fucking tired of these Maureen Dowd lines.  "There are some people who run for office because they are ambitious, grasping, power-mad, self-important martinets.  And then there are ...".

Oh, why bother.

Any way, latest doo-doo-on-the-doorstep by the Palin:

"At a rally on Saturday in California, Sarah Palin offered up a rather jarring argument for supporting the Republican ticket. "There's a place in Hell reserved for women who don't support other women," the Alaska Governor said, claiming she was quoting former Clinton Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.

The statement came after Palin had recounted a "providential" moment she experienced on Saturday: "I'm reading on my Starbucks mocha cup, okay? The quote of the day... It was Madeleine Albright, former Secretary of State [crowd boos] and UN ambassador. ... Now she said it, I didn't. She said, 'There's a place in Hell reserved for women who don't support other women.'"

So Ms. Average Joe-Six-Pack-Molly-Blue-Eye-Shadow-Cindy-Pregnant-Teenage-Daughter-Jack-Drug-Dealing-Son drinks Starbuck Mocha, does she?  Where are the Repug trolls and trollgorithms to denounce this elitist wanna-be?  Or is it that Starbucks is only elitist if Democrat drink it?

Rhetorical question, Channy, no need to answer with another convuluted four page apologia.

You hear that? She's not just strong, capable, and competent. She's SO each one of those.

I think Leebs -- as his staff calls him behind his back -- senses that Democrats will pick up 5-8 seats in the upper chamber this fall and figures he might as well go all out if he's going to lose that committtee chairmanship.

I'm still waiting for the Newsmedia the so called "Liberal" media to cover the story on Palin's Witch Doctor/Pastor. You know sort of like they did Rev Wright who Palin has suddenly rediscovered by the way. But when you have nothing to offer it make sense you focus your entire stump speech on bringing the other guy down. I guess all that eye winking and flirting isnt helping her cause any she has taken to threatening: If women dont support me there will be a special place in hell for them.

Doesnt it just warm your hear that this person could be our next leader. I cant tell you how much it keeps me up at night with excitement. Maybe after she is elected we can have a witch hunt right here in Amercia over 4 centuries later. Her pastor can see how many of us women are really witches and we can be punish with such things as having our choice over our bodies taken away or having to pay for our kit if we are raped.

On Nov. 5th, I want to ask Lieberman about what God thinks when Obama wins the election.  Was it really God's will, then, that Obama won?  Are you going to use that information when you make decisions from now on?

Leebs does realize that Sarah Palin believes that God will punish him with an eternity in hell just for being Jewish, right?

And while we're on the topic of God's will, at least Hosea's wife earned money when she prostituted herself. Lieberman seems to be doing it for free. To what end? Is there a cabinet post in it for him if McCain wins, and if so, which one? Or is ambassador to Israel enough for him to sell his soul like this?

"With God's Help"  If God believed in a policy of preemtion he/she would have turned this crowd into the babbling idiots often observed at Palin's church.  No question about it, if Jesus himself showed up there, these very 'Christians' would be the first to declare him the anti-Christ.

Lieberman has said that because of his belief and affection for John McCain, that is why he is doing what he is doing. And though I can't stand the sanctimonious little prick, I never really doubted that because of his man-love for McCain, that this essentially explained his reasons for turning his back on the Democrats and Obama.

But with this Palin embrace, and Lieberman incredibly smarmy follow up on the Bill Ayers smear yesteday on CBS, Lieberman is now not acting out of a principled devotion to McCain, but from a deeper, more disturbed, infinitely darker and disturbing psychological animus towards Obama personally. The man has gone off his rocker.

To think that tnr actually endorsed this guy for President in 04 is almost beyond belief.

Come November 5th, Reid and Schumer should remove Lierberman of his chairmanship and his seniority rights as a Democrat. The man needs to go over to the GOP and nestle with the looney right wingers who he knows praises and so willingly acts as a water boy....

Every time a politician makes a reference to God, Michael Crowley sheds a tear.  It just hurts him so bad.

Except when Obama, as the centerpiece of the most famous speech of his political career, says that those in the blue states "worship an awesome God" - because in that particular instance, Crowley figures: Well, Obama doesn't really mean all that God-talk, he's just using it cynically, to get elected.

See, Crowley may be a religious bigot, but he's still cool with exploiting and manipulating those foolish enough to believe in God, if it mean his guy will acquire the power of the Presidency.

Well God's help, really. Well what would the Almighty say about this, does he really waste his time choosing who will be president and vice president and yet allow dictators, and those who commit genocide in other areas of the globe, When is a journalist going to call these goofballs on this line of attack? Let them explain why they constantly call on god to help them? Poor god, why are they so sure god is the great micro manager of America but no where else?

What an idiot Joe Lieberman is... he is about to loose his power in the senate and in 2010 or 2012 whenever he is up for reelection he will surely loose his job.

How can Joe look any of his old Dem buddies in the Senate in the face anymore? How can he walk the streets without body guards?

Fascinating.

By the way, who's  this "God" dude everybody was talking about? Is that a Florida thing? Do I owe God any money--hope not, I'm kinda tapped out these days. Or, wait a minute: does God owe ME money?

Florida's a big football state, so God is probably some up and coming Seminole or Hurricane wide receiver who'll make a big splash in a bowl game as a sophomore before falling under his own blocker, blowing out a knee, and spending the next five years selling used cars before getting picked up for slapping around his common-law wife, then while he's out on OR he dies of alcohol-related liver failure.

I just hope this God dude isn't with the government. Those guys are on my shit list lately--muni court can't produce a Judgment I need, county health inspector loses my permit fee, fire inspector gives me misleading information. The usual. So if God shows up and flashes some kind of ID and wants to lecture me about set-backs or filing dates or what not he'd better bring along a lunch.

Traitor, Joe Lieberman, is headed for the political wilderness in 2009, when the Dems will take away his committee chairmanships and have nothing more to do with him. The GOP will never trust him either, not after he is no longer any use to them in McCain's campaign this year. He may as well retire from politics and become a radio preacher.

I wonder if Lieberman is actually helping Obama in a bizarre way.  I know a number of neocon-ish Israeli hawkish Jewish senior citizens who have lost faith in McCain because of his Palin choice and because he generally seems deranged and reckless.  He and Palin both scare them, and - in spite of lingering reservations - they will likely vote for Obama.  With Lieberman being so bizarre, perhaps it helps them disassociate themselves, kind of like, "He's not one of us anymore, we can't use him as a guide."  Lieberman's crossed over, essentially.  Jumped the shark.

Good riddance, I say!

That would actually be the devout Evangelicals doing God's will, as it is being conveyed to them by their pastors from their pulpits every Sunday between now and November 4th because obviously election laws are man's laws, not God's laws, and because they are doing God's bidding they will receive eternal reward in heaven when they die.
