Whether you call them hot rollers, electric rollers or even steam rollers, there are secrets to rolling the curlers for best curl results.  The good news?

Hot hair rollers are still as popular as ever and are ideal for certain types, textures, lengths and condition of hair which may not be as appropriate for curling irons.

Another advantage tohot rollers is that once you’ve positioned them and allowed them to cool, they will more often than not provide a longer lasting curl.  Of course the key is to position them uniformly and make sure they are allowed to remain in the hair as long as possible.

Danger Of Rolling Hair With Hot Rollers

While using hot rollers can create loose and bouncy curls and ringlets, if you don’t know how to roll and position them into your hair you may be at risk of winding up with flat roots and overly rolled ends.  Even worse the overall look can be tangled and a mess of triangulated hair.  Definitely not great. After doing a spectacular job winning the Shortcut Challenge on Shear Genius 3, Episode 7, Janine Jarman stepped up and blew away the other SG3 contestants, judges and viewers in The Elimination Challenge.

I decided to go back and do a blow by blow, no pun intended, of all of Janine’s actions, quotes and results for anyone who missed this hair diva extraordinaire on the show last week.  I for one can’t believe it’s only Saturday and we have to wait four more days until the next competition with the bottom four.

The Elimination Challenge started with the five contestants being greeted by host/judge Camilla Alves wearing a short sleek bob.  Probably a wig but definitely cute.

She told the SG3 contestants about their elimination challenge which was designing hairstyles for Grammy award winning singer/songwriter Estelle who was hold “a Red Carpet event that will be happening here, later tonight.”  Camilla then introduced Estelle. (more…)

If you’ve been watching Shear Genius 3 you are aware that many of the female contestants have been wearing a series of fun, fashion forward hats.  Janine Jarman is famous for her cute little fedora along with a beret and other adorable hats.

April and Faatemah has also worn their versions of fedoras.  Faatemah actually paired her hat with a base scarf.  Of course Brig has also showcased a wide assortment of big hair accessories, bows and hats.

Jennifer Aniston has been working the red carpet lately.  She appeared the red carpet at the premiere of “The Bounty Hunter” held at the Ziegfeld Theatre on March 16, 2010 in New York City and is expected to attend additional premieres over the next few weeks.  Yes, the lovely Jen did not disappoint in New York with her beauty and signature style.

What’s Jen’s latest movie about?  It’s about Milo Boyd (Gerard Butler), a down-on-his-luck bounty hunter who gets his dream job when he is assigned to track down his bail-jumping ex-wife, reporter Nicole Hurly (Jennifer Aniston).

He thinks all that’s ahead is an easy payday, but when Nicole gives him the slip so she can chase a lead on a murder cover-up, Milo realizes that nothing ever goes simply with him and Nicole.

The exes continually one-up each other - until they find themselves on the run for their lives. They thought their promise to love, honor and obey was tough - staying alive is going to be a whole lot tougher. Andy Tennant (”Hitch,” “Sweet Home Alabama”) directs.

“The Bounty Hunter” opens in theaters nationwide today, March 19.

One thing I have learned over the years is that there is never an absolute answer when it comes to hair.

While it’s true that a long history of utilizing hair extensions, especially those that apply pressure to the roots of the hair, can at some point cause challenges with traction alopecia, which is a form of hair loss, it doesn’t mean it will happen.  Or even that it will happen to everyone.

New studies are indicating that hair extensions may cause hair loss issues.  But the studies are just the tip of the iceberg.  There are too many variable that must be considered before making a blanket statement that hair extensions can lead to hair loss.

Hair Extension Hair Loss Risk Factors

What should be considered when weighing a risk of hair extensions and hair loss are the following items:

1.  Age of the person getting the hair extensions. 
2.  Type and thickness of the hair that will have extensions added.
3.  Current health of the scalp where extensions will be attached
4.  Type of hair extension methods utilized such as temporary or semi-permanent
(weaves, fusion, beads, tape or other methods)
5.  How long the extensions will be continuously worn
6.  Expertise of the hair extension technician
7.  History of scalp problems
8.  Genetic predisposition towards hair thinning or loss
