Sex And The City Movie - Big, Bold & Gold

Spoiler Alert - If you haven’t seem the movie yet…you may not want to read any futher…although I promise to try and keep any spoiler to a minimum.

Yes, I was there. One of the hordes of women sprinkled with a few men, who showed up for the very first showing of the SATC movie. The first time available was 10:15 and there I was waiting patiently in line to buy my ticket at 10:00 am sharp.

By 10:10 I was in the very packed theater (Friday at 10:00 am and the theater is packed? Can you only imagine as the day goes on what the crowds will be like?) waiting patiently for sooooooo many previews to finish playing.

The movie is great, fantastic, wonderful, entertaining and a virtual fashion extravaganza. Would we expect anything else? At one point Carrie literally wears a blue bird on her head made out of feathers - natch - to go with her wedding gown. It sounds wild but it actually was perfect to go with her dress.

Meanwhile, accessories were IT. While the fashions definitely tracted with current trends such as geometrics - florals and soft floaty Lauren Conrad California designs, the accessories were key. Hoops were beyond big and at some point throughout the movie Carrie, Miranda, Samantha and even Charlotte had hoops. Miranda and Samantha had big, bold and often gold hoops or faux hoops. They were gorgeous but definitely the focal point of their fashions.

Besides big, bold earrings, there were eye popping geometrically inspired bangles. Samantha wore a stunning thick wide gold bangle that had a definite geometric influence. Carrie at one point had tons and tons of skinny bracelets that extended from her wrist to almost her elbow. It was a striking look.

Carrie also rocked a breathtaking bracelet embellished with a bow.

Like the TV show there was an abundance of “labels” including Manolo Blatnik shoes, Louis Vuitton handbags and a few humorous, yet marginally snide, comments about Beg, Borrow & Steal which allows you to “rent” handbags.

All the cherished props and characters were present and accounted for including Candice Bergen as the scary Vogue editor and Magda, Miranda’s snarky but sweet nanny for Brady.

Belts were big and I mean in size. Carrie combined a few fresh and feminine styles with a wide belt with prominent studs. It was an unusual combo but it worked. Her shoes were beyond spectacular and she wore an endless procession of lovely designs ranging from boots to jewel encrusted stillettos.

Samantha also rocked the big, bold belt trend with some stunning designs pulled together with spectacular buckles.

And yes, there were hair accessories, but unlike the big, bold cuffs, belts, earrings, necklaces and brooches (yes they were there too) the hair accessories consisted of thin headbands (Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte’s daughter), a jeweled hairclip (Miranda) and a beaded ponytail holder (Samantha).

Flower accessories were present but not nearly as excessively as in the TV version. Of course there is the stunning white dress with the huge white flower Carrie wears in an opening scene. But the floral motif was more at play in the dresses. Even Charlotte wore a bold floral top and a rose motif dress.

The new Sex And The City Movie is as close to accessory heaven as any accessory freak (like myself) could ever ask for. Shoes, bags, earrings, necklaces, bangles, bracelets, belts, hair accessories, belts, knee socks, wraps, scarves…oh my…..could it get any better?
