Hello? Hellooooo?
Hi there. You may be looking in your feed reader every day and thinking "Another no-news-'bout-FeedBurner day." You may be starting to think, "Are they still in there? In the FeedBurner bubble, burning the feeds? Did somebody maybe shut off their connection to the Tubes?" You may be thinking that or worse. We have some good news, and some just newsy news.
First, the good news. We are totally still here, burning the feeds, writing the checks (that's some sweet cursive Giuliana's wielding), and analyzing the analytics.
Next, the newsy news, aka "what we did over summer and winter and spring vacation." If you are looking for juicy announcements, this section is NOT for you. This is more like the academic paper section of the post, except for the fact it lacks erudition and other big vocabulary words. We have been and are busy integrating FeedBurner into a more Googley way of life. This Googley way of life is very different on the backend architecture side, so the team has been busy both scaling and maintaining the existing environment, while simultaneously rewriting the system to act like one of the cool kids in the more Googley (Googly? Can we get a ruling on this one?) architecture world.
So, if you're a publisher, a good next question is "Um, why are you doing this again?" The answers are numerous, so let's itemize a few of them:
Why not build new services and integrate at the same time? There are lots of opinions about the best way to go through integrations. Our perspective is that the time you lose trying to continuously merge an updated legacy codebase with a new rewrite causes you be in a world of never actually getting the integration done because you're constantly working on merge problems, which gives you less time to add new features OR get the new backend integration done, and eventually you kind of grind to a halt, much like Achilles trying to catch the Tortoise in Zeno's paradox. We're confident, in fact, that Zeno would have used software integration to illustrate his paradox had he lived in less pre-Socratic times. Anyhoo, we decided to bite the bullet and go full-on integration (while maintaining the existing environment) as much as possible, knowing that it would mean few new features or capabilities while we went on our backend integration journey. So, while we have continued to add hundreds of thousands of new publishers and feeds, you haven't heard a lot from us despite a lot of hard work. It's not really that exciting to post "Soon, you will have everything you used to have, only it will look different to the people working on it here!"
There are lots of lots of product integration points that we know people would like to see, and we are looking forward to those as well. These opportunities are not lost on some of the brighter students at Google, and believe me, there are some real brainiacs around here. We keep whispering to each other in the hallways, "What if they find out we're stupid?"
On the customer side, we have been signing up new publishers right and left (or left and right, depending on whether you live in the northern or southern hemisphere), and in fact, our publisher services team is busier than ever. We used to announce all of these new publishers, but it's a bit less exciting to announce customers that are already customers of other parts of the company without feeling like the kids in school who are the last ones to do everything. (Simulated conversation. FeedBurner: "Hey, we just burned our millionth feed!" Search: "It's cute how they still get excited about numbers in the millions.")

I just want to say you guys are doing a great job, I just started using FeedBurner and I love it. Keep up the good work.
good news, thanks...
Is this "integrating FeedBurner into a more Googley way of life" the reason that emails regarding blog posts are not sent at the moment? It would be nice to know since in that case I can just forget trying to find a solution for this problem and wait until it's over (since of course everybody understands that making things better - everything you write is indeed good to hear - never happens faultless)
@Kris, can you clarify your problem over in our support forums? I'm not aware of any active issues with email delivery.
The ruling is 'Googley'. :-)
Just want to say that you guys rock! Thanks for your hard work, feedburner is amazing.
My blog goes out fine via feedburner email every day. I know because i'm one of my subscribers ;->
Hi,
Any ideas on when Google Adsense will be integrated with FeedBurner feeds? Also, have you guys stopped accepting people into the FAN network?
I have over 1800 RSS readers and yet still no option to put Feedburner ads in my feed, only to add Adsense on my site, which I already do myself.
Any updates on this very feature would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
AK
@Eric, OK, thanks for your reply
As long as we still have everything we've always had, and it works as well as it always has, then everything will be OK. :)
Thanks for the good work, and keep it up!
I vote for "Googly"
@Aseem - we don't have any dates to announce at this point. This is certainly a top request from our publishers, and hopefully the post above makes it clear we are still listening and working hard to leverage our now being a part of Google, including monetization solutions for publishers.
Yes, we are still adding publishers to FAN - eligibility is based on inventory needs of our advertisers and is constantly evaluated. Advertisers currently target publishers based on content.
I'm dyin for the email integration...we have thousands of old emails to include...
Looking forward to hearing more!
A simple comment - burning feeds with this great service makes it too simple and easy. Love it! Best of all, can manage all my feeds in one place without having to write custom code or anything
Cheers!
Why have stats been dropping incredibly again today? If a service drops for a day, wouldn't it be better to use yesterday's data than none at all?
Love the humor. :)
Keep up the great work! I appreciate all you do and I know trying to keep up, especially with all the Google api's and stuff can be challenging!
Full integration with Google.
Is this why Google reader subscribers are not showing up in today's feed count? ;)
Hey, I think there is a bug presently in feedburner. Our feeds subscription suddenly fell down. On going into details, I saw that for today Google Feedfetcher (Google reader and IGoogle) subsriptions arent being taken into account. Is this a bug on your part that will be corrected soon? Or did I understood it wrong?
Thanks,
Mayank
Just joined feedburner recently and wished I joined it sooner! Thanks!
What if I live on the equator? What hand goes first then? Did nobody think about this? All is lost...
Great work, all. As a hapless and bungling website operator I can't tell you how easy Feedburner has made so many things I would have screwed up on my own. Or maybe I did just tell you.
hi there -- i just logged in this morning and noticed a huge drop in subscribers to both blogs i run through feedburner. it appears the google reader subscribers aren't being counted? or something? can anyone hep me to what's up? thanks!
I echo the previous comments about a feedburner bug. My feed count dropped from 500 to 150 overnight. Did you guys change something? Is this what is going to happen every time you blog? ;)
Having same problem with all of a sudden HUGE drop in subscribers. Most of the people I know do.
Very interesting peek into the back-end sorcery going on. You need to go with 'googley' because 'googly' is a type of ball (pitch) in cricket and us cricket fans won't be happy if you guys tread on our vocabulary.
I'd like to hear a lot MORE about the back-end stuff, not less. Especially plans for integration with Google Analytics.
And yeah, that sudden drop in count today is annoying. A good explanation of how you guys count, and how to clean out these blips would be useful (I am just starting to do some analysis of my stats offline; building projects, logistic regressions and the like...)
Ahoy thar FeedBurner. It seems that the Googly way is rather scary and cuts subscribers in half! Is somebody walking the plank today? Yaaaaarrrr
Another one for the 'where have my Google subscribers gone?' problem - glad to know it's not just me!
Wow, great to see you guys back in the world of the living!
You've made many great things possible for us, thanks for all the work you do!
went from low 400s to 238 today. dont know where to find news on what happened. can you blog on it? or send out something? thanks
Good Job Thus Far FeedBurner :)
Has anyone else noticed a dramtic drop in readers today? Just wondering if the stats were off....
I too had a huge drop in subscriptions today. (Almost 50%) Please tell me it's a problem generally and not just readers suddenly fed up with my whiny blog?
I love most everything about Feedburner, but the fact that there's no easy way to report problems or find out what's going on when things are suddenly weird is a bit frustrating.
"Why have stats been dropping incredibly again today? If a service drops for a day, wouldn't it be better to use yesterday's data than none at all?" It's the same for me
I see that Google Feedfetcher has crapped out once again. I for one do not find it encouraging that your new masters cannot seem to get their data feeds in order.
Less backslapping, please, and more data delivery. Thanks.
I can concur that the stats are messed up again today, showing a large reduction in feeds.
I also found a some feed reduction. Although I'm sure it will get fixed.
I'm loving the use of the Pro features. I've turned them on for all of my blogs and it defiantly helps me keep on top of things.
Keep up the good work and update the blog a little more often, eh:)
Double the "E" and make that GOOGLEEY - it adds symmetry and consistency.
Love my Feedbuurneer ;-)

To the folks reporting sudden subscriber drops: they should be back in your reporting in the next 24-48 hours, assuming you're referring to a loss in numbers from "Feedfetcher," Google's bot that crawls feeds on behalf of iGoogle and Google Reader.
This is good to know - thanks for the update, Matt. I was beginning to wonder what I had done to tick so many people off?!
Google Reader users are not counted today.
The update is ok, but not very informative. Why does this happen periodically specifically with Feedfetcher? Is part of your integration work ensuring that it doesn't happen anymore (this is at least the third time I've seen it)...
Same problem as above. An update stating what's wrong or "we're working on it" would be appreciated. Thanks.
Unlike others, I am seeing -some- FeedFetcher subscribers but not all. I went from a pretty consistent 300+ Google readers to 172 today. No other drops in any other source, though.
I'm with the majority. I thought that all of a sudden my readers got bored with me and left! I'm down about 50%.
Has anyone tried subscribing to their feed by e-mail today? My subscribe by e-mail function won't work -- it says the service is not active on my feed (though it is)
As someone who learnt english the hard way. (by teaching english teacher how to teach english) I must say it's Googley. Because the name is Google with y.
The problem with these sudden data losses is that they the statistics over time. Data loss is very serious for a service like Feedburner since the data about the subscribes is what everything else is built upon. I hope for sure that it does not happen again.
It's about time... I've been wondering about you guys! :-)
Great to hear about the plans you have for Feedburner Ad Network. Give us the opportunity to make money through our feeds fast. Surely Google can help you guys on that.
Googley. I love you guys. This is one of the most informative and funny posts I have read in ages.
I totally agree that once a platform has been rebuilt and streamlined then you have a much easier time not just scaling and adding features.
I look forward to the new Googlness
Hey... I want to start by telling you how much I love feedburner! quick feature idea:
When people have an email subscription, they should be able to toggle (in the subscription options) whether to subscribe to comments, and be able to leave a comment by replying to the original post.
Are you guys going to be posting more often then before, well as of late. It would be nice to see what is all comming up. BTW my email suscriptions look a ton nicer today then yesterday so what ever you guys are working on keep it up.
Also I left a comment here yesterday under my sites name but it seems to be gone, any reason for that? I was asking if there was any affilitate program for feedburner?
Just started using the site and it was remarkably easy to get set up. Thanks for the service!
Got my subscribers back today, but I went from 31 down to 14 yesterday and am now at 34. What gives with all these drop-outs, anyway?
Oh yeah, about the post: I love these technical write-ups! Wish we'd hear more about things like this...

Hi Guys
Thanks for your great service - love it!
Just concerned to see that ALL of my e-mail subscribers have disappeared overnight. The whole list has just gone from my dashboard! Is this related to the "feedfetcher" issue that has been mentioned above or is this something completely separate?!
KATE x
I think Google is an evil megalith, but hey, that's just me. Great service though.
I agree with the less backslapping... how about you get some people to actually answer questions over in the help forums? There are serious issues NOT being addressed and the porn spams are making that forum less helpful; ergo, it might mean that some of us will just find some other way to get feeds burned. This is ridiculous that questions cannot be answered in that forum.
Count me a frustrated and pissed-off user.
Oh hey I just thought of something. You know how we can add the headline adimator into our emails ie: thunderbird. You should give us the choice to also add in Google Adsense ads along with that service.
Either go just the headline adimator or go with HLA and Adsense combo.
Hope that makes sense.
I love what you guys are doing here. It's a great way to be able to track my blog...but somehow a few days ago, my Site Visitors has dropped to 0 and I know darned well I've had visitors to my blog. :( Any news on what's going on with that?
I'm sure that this would all be great and wonderful if the login page started working again.
Correct user id ... reset the password twice ... it just keeps going back to the login page with no error message at all ... no response from the contact form.
Wow ... it's really gone downhill quickly.
With reference to your "More and better services" section, the architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe is in fact best known for the aphorism, "less is more", rather than "more is more".
I like the general idea, though.
Wow.. that is cool and was really expected.. I thought things are finished but yes u r doing :).. goodluck !
On support, and the Forums: we're moving soon to a Google Groups-powered community support area. There will also be some positive changes concerning how support is provided through the new Group.
@J with sign-in problems: have you received a response to your inquiry yet?
Also, in case you haven't seen it already, we now have an official Google Help Center (https://www.google.com/support/feedburner/) that will soon provide additional support options beyond the help topics already published there.
We realize you expect and demand consistently stability above all else from a service like ours, and we'll keep at it to ensure that we report your traffic and serve up your content as reliably as possible.
You guys are doing a great job with the integration. Keep it up!
I face strong problem with using feedburner feeds. I wanted to submit an xml sitemap to Google Webmaster account, but got this reply that the atom.xml was redirecting Google to 'FEEDBURNER URL'. While 'Full integration with Google' is claimed, I had to pull off the feedburner feed redirect url, from my Blogger-Settings-Sitefeed-Post feed redirect FIELD. It was OK then.
I want to redirect to feedburner; would you please resolve the issue? Thanks in anticipation.
I'm having the same issues as creativechaos. I run sitemeter on my blog, too. (Hey, it's good to get a second opinion, right?) For the last few months, their hit counts have been about the same, but over the past couple of days the numbers have had a 15-20 hit difference. (Sitemeter counting more.) Right now, Sitemeter says I've had 17 his today and Feedburner says I've had 1.
I like using Feedburner more and I appreciate the work you guys put into making it run smoothly. Keep us posted on any issues that may explain our problems! Thanks!
I want to know how to contact feedburner support when the forums aren't answering the question nor has a solution to the problem.
[hummm...will I get an answer?]
@Natalie: We had an issue with our site stats rollup yesterday that has since been resolved; this issue likely explains the discrepancy you witnessed:

It's definitely 'Googly'. Just like the adjective form of 'wiggle'. You wouldn't write 'wiggley'. You'd write 'wiggly'. The same rule applies to giggly, goggly, jiggly, waggly. When adding a 'y', lose the 'e'.
Great news!
Google has suprised me this pr update i really cant wait to see the next results and update.
Wow exciting times indeed. I'm very new to feedburner but loving it already. Great work !!!
