Obama Raises $52 Million in June
July 17, 2008 7:26 AM
ABC News' Rick Klein Reports: In an email to supporters this morning, Sen. Barack Obama's presidential campaign announced the presumptive Democratic nominee raised $52 million in the month of June.
The $52 milllion the Obama raised in June -- the month the primary campaign ended -- is a far bigger haul than the "only" $22 million he raised in May, his worst fundraising month of the year. It approaches but not does exceed his record $55 million in February.
Earlier this month, Republican presidential nominee John McCain announced his June fundraising numbers: $22 million, McCain's best fundraising month of the year.

Hmmm no wonder Obama supports stimulus checks.

I live in Massachusetts and so far not one person hss told me he or she intends to vote for Obama. Everyone so far says they are Hillary supporters and will vote for McCain.
Strange that this shift does not seem to be picked up.
I am a Hillary supporter. I have always voted Dem but will vote McCain this time. Also will vote against Kerry who supported Obama instead of following the state vote for Hillary.

Good going Obama. Maybe now you can come up with a T.V. ad about something besides how you grew up! ...That is, if you can think of anything you’ve done that ever amounted to anything. There may be some Budweiser commercial writers looking for a job...Baghdad Bob may still be available!

Obama is a prostitute - He stands for nothing except pushing what ever agenda is going to get him the job. Following this guy is like Michiganders who followed Feiger. This guy is dishonestt and has demonstrated no real leadership. He is simply a good speaker. Hillary could have done the job but she is a prostitute also. Selling her support for cash. I am really disappointed and disgusted that my party would surrender leadership capability to statistics. Being the first to put a serious black candidate forward at the expense of real ideals. Obama's radical church, radical wife, radical friends are his radical beliefs.

Maybe this means Obama can get by without Hillary's petulant deep-pockets. But there still has to be concern at Obama HQ over what happens when their own donor base taps out.

Posted by: matt | Jul 17, 2008 7:57:45 AM

Last week, all the neoconservatives were laughing about how Obama'financial support was waning. They really got a kick out of how John McCain was catching up in fundraising with $22M in June.
Who's laughing Now?

Posted by: toothchipper55 | Jul 17, 2008 7:58:20 AM

Remember Obama had those $28,000 Warren Buffett parties and many others, I wonder what the % of small donors are contributing now! I am like "Dem. no more", can not in good conscience vote for Obama, and I don't know many that are! The DNC cannot afford to send postage free solitations for money! Because if they do, I write on the form "Hillary 08" and mail them back I also do this with the Obama mail! They want to send them, I'm just returning them, let them pay the postage!! Spend some of that 52 mil.

NOTE to NeoCons: Stop pretending to be Hillary supporters.
There is a lot of nasty stuff on this site about Senator Obama that is allegedly written by supporters of Senator Clinton.
I am pretty sure that most of this junk is posted by conservative operatives who are trying to sow seeds of discontent. You know, they say something really nasty or negative, supposedly on behalf of Senator Obama or Senator Clinton in order to upset the other side.
However, if you are a Clinton or Obama supporter, please don’t fall for this disinformation campaign and respond negatively.
Let's keep our eye on the ball folks.
John McCain was one of the principal advocates for the war in the first place, even though he has been critical of President Bush’s conduct of the Iraq War in recent years.
As a leading Republican Senator, John McCain could have impeded the Iraq war. Instead, John McCain and George Bush started a war that did not need to be fought – that Iraq war caused the deaths of more than 4,000 American soldiers and wasted more than $1 Trillion that imperils the American economy.
This unnecessary war has strained the military (especially the reserves) way too much. McCain’s crew has spent too much. And too many people have died for McCain’s mistake in Iraq. Now John McCain wants you to hire him to fix the Iraq quagmire that he caused. No…I don’t think so.
Senator McCain is also opposed to a woman’s right to choose, and he would be appointing Supreme Court Justices during the next four years. Vote for John McCain, and say goodbye to Roe v. Wade.
Now, you can vote for John McCain out of spite. Well, that’s one way to go. Generally, Hillary supports Obama because she believes in the same fundamental causes.
I trust that you will support your candidate based primarily on their respective positions on the issues that are important to you.
Based on the issues, Obama is a much better choice than McCain.

matt...his donor base will never tap out. He has people who are sending in $5 and $10 dollars. That what I call being supported by the REAL Americans

THE BEST MONEY CAN BUY

Posted by: MJ | Jul 17, 2008 8:08:21 AM

I would support a level playing field where all candidates - not just the two major ones - had equal funding. I hate the way a relatively few rich people and organizations control our country. I am not critical of Obama's 52 million June or saying McCain is the good guy only raising 22 million. I am saying that this is why no other party has a chance and that we badly need campaign reform - but with the two major parties in control, that is never going to happen.

Posted by: Mark | Jul 17, 2008 8:08:37 AM

A good speaker is exactly what we need in our country. Somebody who isn't afraid to do what he/she believes is good for this country. We do not want another selfish warmonger like the Bush campaign. I've met many men and women in the Armed Forces that are supporting Barack Obama. We want direction and support, something he promises to deliver.

Posted by: Brian from Iraq | Jul 17, 2008 8:09:16 AM

Its just these McCain trolls posting for their McCain points. Keep it up! Nobody buys your bs. Obama is fundraising all this despite the fact that the economy is awful. And those big money dinners you talk about, the most you can give to Obama is $2,300. The big money checks go to the DNC, which is not being included in this 52million number, so lets get our facts straight here.
But then again you neocons never cared much for facts.

Posted by: Thomas | Jul 17, 2008 8:12:09 AM

The raising of money does not impress me. Having some worth while solutions to problems facing the American public does. Obama is genuinely lacking in this area. The chief qualification to be President of the United States is not marketing skills. Finally, to toss
around the number 55 million to fly around in planes and give speeches, when a large part of the US citizery is
struggling to pay for food and gas is
insulting.

Posted by: Jenny | Jul 17, 2008 8:13:13 AM

So truthtell, you are saying 10 million individual downers sent 5 bucks a piece to Obama and that 4 million donors sent 5 bucks to McCain. The polls - favorable though they might be - don't seem to reflect that - Obama does not have an over 2 to 1 lead - to say the McCain's is mostly from rich people are corporations would have to be reflected in an even bigger lead - on the 5 to 10 buck donation theory. I wish you were right. But I think the vast majority of the money on both sides did not come from the masses - nor is our government chosen by them or reflective of them - it is reflective of the special interests with all the money.

all of you can trash talk all you want. no way any of you liars and "hillary supporters...boooo hoooo" are going to put a war supporting classic republican pro life corporate loving guy in the oval office whose own supporter said the recession is in the mind. i'm sure when you go into the voting booth, you're going to suck it up and vote obama. so keep on coming here and bullsh*tting everyone about how you just cannot support a liberal classic democrat for the middle class and women and a fair economy like obama. noone believes your crap.

I have not heard of one person that is going to vote for Obama, nor have I spoken to one that has contributed to his campaigns. Where IS his money coming from?

Posted by: Virginia | Jul 17, 2008 8:18:53 AM

I don't believe a word of it. Why didn't they tell it in June. This is the middle of July. We all know that John McCain had more donations in June than Obama. His campaign appears to build up Obama. Obama has campaign liars like himself. But I think that will all come to an end if Hillary's voters are smart enough to vote for McCain or write her name in. He is taking two people with him to Iraq because he doesn't understand foreign policy and they do but he is a good pretender. What a disaster this country will be in if he is elected.

toothchipper: We are laughing now because Obama did not get $52,000 in June. Its a made up story made up to the public. Obama's campaigner's are a bunch of liars and fakes like himself. He doesn't know what the truth is. Why then didn't they announce it in June? Because he didn't have it.

Posted by: Mariann Pepitone | Jul 17, 2008 8:22:44 AM

Any Democrat who will vote for John McCain and another four years of Bush tax cuts, banking deregulation, crumbling infrastructure, torture, unfunded education mandates, military adventurism, and censorship of the scientific community is either not a true Democrat or else is a bigot.

Posted by: Opa | Jul 17, 2008 8:23:56 AM

Thank you for your comment Grunt it was spot on. Emma, get a life. I know lots of Hillary supporters who are not voting for Obama. When I go in the booth it will be for John McCain. Take that from an Illinoian who saw Obama do NOTHING for Illinois except use its senate seat for the presidency. At least Hillary actually accomplished things as New York senator and was one for longer than two years, both of Obamas which he spent campaigning.

Posted by: Samantha | Jul 17, 2008 8:26:50 AM

Sooner or later we will find out that Obama is using questionable tactics to raise his money. Obama uses questionable tactics in everything he does. Whay has Obama done for his electorate? What has Obama done for the African American community? Obama walks away from his votes and positions on issues every time his positions pose a threat to him. He walks away from his church and his friends too. Obama gets people to contribute to his campaign much like an evangelist does. Lots of threats, promises and magical healings. Hillary was and is our only real chance to overcome years of republican abuses.

Obama lied last week, he said he brought in 30 million.
Guess that FISA vote got the telecoms to contribute bigtime.
Wonder how his supporters feel about being LIED to ..

==is either not a true Democrat or else is a bigot.==
So since I am African American and not voting for Obama I suppose that makes me the former. Or am I am black bigot? Or both? What is a "true democrat" do tell? And how can you tell if Obama is one since he flip flops on issues so much?
Obamabots love to call names. Yet when the New Yorker cover came out they were crying bloody murder.

My whole family, my entire life, we have always been democrats. Daddy contributed time and money as a union official and personally. For the first time, I watched my dad write a check to a republicanc this year. Daddy says that Obama does not come from the same place as traditional democrats and asked how can our family seperate Obama from his hate filled church and friends?

Posted by: Gracie Ann | Jul 17, 2008 8:35:28 AM

I feel the New orker cover accurately depicts what many people fear. For someone who wants the top spot so badly, Obama has made a lot of bad choices. I don't like the war but I also don't like Americans that don't love the country enough to wear a flag pin and cover their heart during the pledge. I don't think it is funny that many of our nations enemies support this man. FFirst I was going to vote for Hillary, next i decided to stay home, now I have decided to vote for McCain. I feel our party has been taken over by special interests and can't believe the Clintons have joined in.

Obama needs every penny of it.
He needs the PR and marketing of himself, and to keep his mind condtioning techniques and reinforcements out to the public, constantly for it to work.
That is a costly endeavor. Plus His pricy staff, and the new people he has hired. Plus to have surplus to take over the democratic party.
When in the present state of this country. The people are stuggling to survive, people losing thier homes, having a hard time feeding themselves, Mr Obama is so full of Pride that he can gather so much Money to blow promoting himself. Making a public Display of himself.
He is not in a race to Do the Best for the country or the people. He is in a race for himself to make history and do as he pleases. He does not care about you or me or the country. He only cares About Barack Obama and what matters to him.
Evident by what he says, His deeds and how he acts and portrays himself. It is definitely all about him. Nothing to do with Country, Honor or Loyalty.
He will not change, His greed, His seeking power will only grow stonger and deeper.

Man, the NeoConservatives are back on the warpath.
Last week they were gloating that McCain raised $22M and was catching up with Obama. They said Obama’s fundraising was out of gas. He had peaked early.
Now they are complaining that Obama is getting money from little old ladies and fat cats.
You all complained when Senator Obama opted out of public financing.
At that time, Obama accurately told us that McCain would be able to supplement his "public" financing with party and special interest money. And then we learned that the Republican Party expects to raise $400M to try to defeat Obama, despite McCain’s lackluster financial support among us regular Americans.
John Kerry got bushwhacked in 2004 by Bush’s special interest money, and McCain has the same plan this time around.
Unfortunately for you NeoCons and John McCain, Obama is one step ahead of you.
Obama intends to be financially competitive, and he is doing it through millions of small donations. And most of those donations are coming from regular people, including me.
I’m gonna continue giving his campaign $100 to $200 each month until he is elected President.
In fact, I think I’ll fork over another hundred bucks right now. Having a strong and respected President like Obama is worth it.
Thank you for the extra motivation.

Any person who claims they were for Hillary and are now for McCain are not and have not ever been Democrats. The entire notion of abandoning what Hillary stands for as a "protest" vote is preposterous. You are obviously Republicans attempting to hide the fact that John Sydney McCain III is the best you could come up with this year an he will lose by a landslide. No one believes you are a Hillary supporter if you claim you can find JSM III palatable. Its nonsense.

formerhillary -
"Democrat" isn't really a Democrat. This person is a Republican who is just posturing as a way to seed conflict. There's a lot of that on the boards. The best way to address childish attacks
and the immature namecalling is to return to discussions of factual stances. Of course, there will be some Ds who vote for Senator McCain as there will be some Rs who vote for Senator Obama. I think it's more important to focus on such claims by Sen. McCain that he will balance the budget in 4 years. The ability to accomplish this is highly doubtful since he continues the Iraq War, the borrow and spend policies, and proposes other new expenditures. He proposes to eliminate earmarks but his own party is notorious for these. And, even if he was able to do this, cutting earmarks would not make up for continued spending on Iraq and his plan for a larger commitment to Afganistan.

Wow with so many people hurting in this country still the American public gave 52 million dollars to Senator Obama. That is amazing since Senator Obama does not have a clue how to fix anything. I am sorry I forgot he was a Community Organizer in Chicago and of course that is all the experience needed to fix this country problem.
Senator McCain does not have a clue on how to fix the problems in this country either.
This election your choices are a third term of President George W. Bush or a second term of President Jimmy Carter. The above President is and was the worst presidents in the last forty years.

Ya know, its funny, when reading all these comments by supposed ex Hillary voters for McCain, you have to realize that Obama is leading handily in all major polls.I get the impression that there are a handful of PUMA types (people that vote gender specific over a candidates actual chances of winning)that are frantically posting multiple posts ( sorta like the Ron Paul people did ) trying to make things appear bleak for Obama. These PUMA types (My person with a vagina lost to a person with a penis so I will vote for a different person with a penis)have an odd logic indeed. Obama treated Hillary Clinton very fair and she has asked them to back Obama. I don`t know why they can`t face the fact that Barack Obama won and instead of abandoning the party they should do as Hillary Clinton is asking. There are serious womens issues at stake. It is self defeating to vote for a candidate ( McCain) who has voted anti-female all of his political life than to vote for a candidate that supports womens rights ( Obama)and whose policies favor wage and general equality.

Mostly swing states and former Republican strongholds!!!

Formerhillary says, "John McCain was one of the principal advocates for the war in the first place, even though he has been critical of President Bush’s conduct of the Iraq War in recent years."
This is one reason I voted for Clinton, because she voted for the war. If you were the Senator of NY after 9/11 I bet you would've too.
I don't support McCain now because I believe what he stands for. It's because he has a national political past. We don't even have 4 years of Obama in the US Senate to point to. At least with McCain we're not getting a Pandoras box.
Why is this race so close? We had a candidate that would've made this race a non-issue, Clinton, the only candidate on a first name basis with the majority of the world's leaders. She would've blown McCain away.
Now, we have a US Senator with 21 years experience or a US Senator with 3 and a half years experience. This is a Hillary supporter who will vote for someone who isn't a Pandoras Box.

The fact is this. Barack will be the next President of the United States...like it or not. And for all of you Hillary supportes that will vote McCain, do use true Democrats a favor....just change over to that raggety republican brand and say you are republican. DEMOCRATNOMORE - That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. I too was a huge supporter of Hillary, I'd vote for her tomorrow if she threw her hat back in the ring. But a vote for McCain is a vote against EVERYTHING Hillary stood for. I don't hate McCain, but I do abhor his stance on the issues that are important to me - the Bush war, education, health care, Roe v Wade, and don't even get me started on McCain and the economy - he simply doesn't understand it. I'm not in love with Obama - he wasn't my first choice, but he's a damn sight better than that crazy old man who sings "Bomb Iran" and doesn't have a firm grip on reality. There is NO perfect politician, but to say that you supported Hillary's campaign and that now you'll vote for McCain tells me that you haven't done your homework.

Reason why Obama trails McCain is because he spends money faster. Obama outspend Clinton 4:1 and 3:1 and still lost many primaries. He needs the money.

I cant believe the obama camp brags about how much money he made in a month. I wonder what the people that lost there homes to Katrina think, 52 million in one month, wow just think if the obama supporters did that for them. Or the kids at christmas and the families for thanksgiving that have no food or gifts for there families, all the money that is being wasted for TV ads, emails phone calls, its just stupid. We have people living in america that have no food or heat in the winter and we just give 1 man 52 million dollars in 30 days to maybe not posively but maybe the president that is going to do what, make life easier, I dont know Im thinking If the democrats took all this money that they are giving to the politicans I bet life might be abit easier atleast for the needy... Just think what some needy organization could do with 52 million dollars in just 30 days, it's amazing. The next time I get a call from the make a wish foundation or the american cancer society Im just gonna tell them to call a Obama supporter, Obviously they are the ones with the money...

FOR SALE - AMERICAN PRESIDENCY
How about if we elect a President the old fashioned way, through fair and honest elections, based upon the candidate's actual patriotism, experience, judgement, and service to country ... instead of who is more of a showman, or who can raise more money ... and therefore buy the Presidency ... (like Barack Obama did in the primaries), and is trying to do in the general election.

Its great to hear from pbama's haters and good to know they will not be voting for him. That later action to be seen by them would only make Obmamite to look and campaign hard for Obama so as to get more Independents and converted Republicans.
As such the few Cilintonians who refuse to vote for obama will be Isignifant any more and that will see Obama as the next President of america.
He, Obama has tried to make friend to Hillary after the Battle of all Battale.
He eventually won, hence tghe next Battle would not be seen as the Mother of all battle we have seen, rather it will be A Baby of All Battle. Obama won the Big one over Ex President wife of America and noicing Hillary and Clinton support around him and Democrats now, will leave McCain No Hoper to the Presidency.
We all still love The Big Bill and Powerful Hillary, with their additional supports, Obma will win the Presidency. This is a Plus and not Minus. Bill is now a fan and supporter of Obama, this ios an opportunity that Algore datched during his own campaign for his Presidency and guess what happened.
Good for Bill and hillary to be seen on board with Obama. all others few and handfull Hillary's supporters can go back to join Republican, I wish them GOOD Luck whilst the Democrts have moved two steps a head of them all.
Long Live American Democrats, Long Live the Independents and Long Live the Truely copnverted republicans.
