Clinton Ignores Middle East Flap, Stays Down on the Farm
May 15, 2008 3:19 PM
ABC's Eloise Harper reports: Senator Hillary Clinton’s motorcade traveled down a dirt road in Bath, South Dakota into Jones’ Farm Thursday afternoon so she could talk about the passage of the Farm Bill in the Senate Thursday.
Clinton didn’t cast a vote for the bill because she was hitting the campaign trail (neither did Senators Obama or McCain) –- but she outlined the plan in front of a crowd of a few hundred that gathered outside. Oddly, Clinton did not take the opportunity to mention President Bush’s comments making news today about Democrats being appeasers, which had been interpreted by some as a political swipe at her Democratic rival, Sen. Obama. Senator Clinton has in the past criticized Senator Obama for being to willing to meet with no-preconditions with isolated world leaders such as Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinejad .
Instead Clinton chose only to make political hay of the Farm Bill, and took questions about agricultural issues as well as topics such as immigration and veterans affairs. Speaking about McCain’s position on the farm bill -- Clinton said “Senator McCain said he’d do exactly the same thing as President Bush. They’re like to sides of the same coin, and it doesn’t amount to much change does it?â€
Clinton continued to talk about the bill – in a setting very reminiscent of her events last fall in Iowa.
“What we have to do is make it clear that we are going to stand behind this farm bill. We have enough votes to override a veto, if the president goes through with it, which I hope he wont.†Clinton continued "I give advice to President Bush all the time - he never listens to me. I'll try again today (and say) ‘don’t veto the farm bill President Bush.’ Because I believe saying no to the farm bill is like saying no to rural America.â€
Senator Clinton has one more campaign stop in South Dakota before flying to Los Angeles, CA to attend fundraisers this evening.

Why should Clinton defend Obama when all he and his surrogates have been doing have been trying to cut her off at the knees.
Obama is afraid of LIMPING into Denver. That explains these endorsements coming one day after his huge loss in W. Virginia.
Don't be fooled by Obama.

difference between HRC and BHO:
HRC fought for her votes and trying to win supports from blacks in NC, knowing that she will lose, knowing that she will be deeper in debt, and knowing that blacks will vote 92% in favor of bo.
BHO believed poor, less-educated, bitter overs in WV not worthy of his moving his royal butt to talk to them, nor even attempting to give the appearance of trying to win them back. He throw them to McCain in the general election, and he has given the bitter voters up.

Hillary's doing what any good representative of the electorate should do, listening to their ideas and answering questions. She doesn't have to address the idiocy of Obama having a cozy chat over tea with Mahmud Ahmadinejad. Most of us already know how ridiculous that would be.

Posted by: Emily | May 15, 2008 3:33:01 PM

ummm i love how she is using the bill to get votes... but she didn't go support it today...

Posted by: matt | May 15, 2008 3:36:27 PM

Hillary does not have to do anything to help Obama out of the holes he digs for himself. Obama will have to answer for himself. He is good at digging his own holes, and too green to know it. He seems to be able to double-talk his way out, however, because he has much of the media behing him. Sooner or later, "his chickens will come home to roost!"
In the meantime, she continues to talk abount the issues that are most important to people. She is the most qualified and ready candidate to lead this country. She stays focused, and she is tough.
Ohio knows it, Pennsylvania knows it, West Virginia knows it, Michigan knows it, Florida knows it, and most Americans have voted for her.
Go, Hillary!

Now, BHO is attempting to pander the good people in Kentucky by visiting them, having been criticized and pushed by Edwards to lend him a opportunistic hand to diminish HRC's accomplishment in WV.

This is a message to all Hillary's supporters. Hillary Clinton ain't Lazarus in the bible. From where she is there's no coming back, she's just trying to get your money to clear her $20m debt. Open your eyes people, don't be fooled. Hillary is toast, good bye. Over & out.

We'd be happy to contribute to retire her debt, which is for a good cause.

Intrade.com probabilities to win the 2008 Presidential Election (current)...
Obama: 57.2%
McCain: 37.1%
Clinton: 7.1%

Posted by: BFD | May 15, 2008 3:50:20 PM

You all are not looking at the polls correctly...
all of the head to head match ups between dems and Mccain
would have to include the defections... that is what no one is talking about
and these are at the height of the primary fighting etc...
that is why you will slowly see a dramatic rise in Obama's numbers as things cool down...
but even at the height with McCain having a free pass for months...Obama is beating McCain by 6 points.
It is a BIG year for the dems.

you hillary supporters need to watch a recap of hillarys campaign then i think you would hopefully see how she has played the political game and failed.
This is why she has the second highest disapproval rating among politicians in this country, only to be outdone by George DUbbya.
She thought she had the nomination in the basket.
She was fine with not counting FL or MI
She continually changed her compaigns message
She continually changed and still changes what a win equals, and how you win.
She doesnt want to count caucus states because if she does then she si behind in the popular vote?
She cant claim to be the best candidate to win the election if she is LOSING this one, and she is losing...

We vote he who is best for the country, not ideology. There has already been 8 years of gamble for a feeling-good beer buddy. We cannot afford another 4 years of gamble for feeling-good speeches.

Instead of helping to teach voters to transcend race for the good of unity in America, the Clintons, like the Republicans, have been pandering to the lowest in some Americans.
For how many elections have Black Americans been voting for white candidates, and voting IN LARGE NUMBERS?
How likely is it that ANY Black candidate will not be voting for a candidate because he or she is white?
The well known Clintons aren't getting a lot of American votes because Obama is a better candidate for America and the Clintons have been proving themselves to be DIVISIVE!
Don't forget the very HIGH NEGATIVE of Hilary!
Hilary is the most hated politician in America, and for good reasons!
Black Americans are not likely to vote for such a one, and neither do the majority of Americans.
Hilary Clinton is still convinced that Blacks would vote for her, should she be the nominee; because Blacks have been voting for white Dems in too large numbers for many elections! So much so that even Hilary takes the Black vote for granted.
Can Obama take white votes for granted?
Can Obama take white votes for granted in West Virgina?
Those are the huge differences between Blacks voting for a better candidate in Obama; and whites voting from a worse candidate and leesser in Hilary.

a vote cast for mccain is a vote to ensure roe v wade is overturned something that absolutely cant happen.

All the Presidential candidates are going to sign into law, an massive AMNESTY. Neither Obama, Clinton or McCain cannot be truly trusted? Right now Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) is expected to try to add an amnesty for illegal-alien agricultural workers to the Iraq supplemental spending bill when that bill is marked up today in the Senate Appropriations Committee. At this point, the details of the amnesty are unknown. There is some chance she may try to slip it through by giving one or two million illegal ag workers a 5-year amnesty as opposed to a permanent legalization. However, that still allows them to work and live here while further sinking roots. The open-borders champions hope that the longer illegal aliens stay the more difficult it will ever be to deny them U.S. citizenship. In addition, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) is using strong-arm tactics against anti-illegal-immigration Democrats in an effort to kill the SAVE Act (H.R. 4088) for the year. North Carolina Democrat Heath Shuler's SAVE Act is an incredible threat to the unscrupulous businesses of America who insist on illegal labor to hold down their labor costs. Most business owners are not like that, but the outlaw businesses have the ear of Speaker Pelosi. Madam Pelosi and her team are intimidating Democrats to make sure they do not sign the Discharge Petition that would bring the SAVE Act to the floor for a vote. They know it would easily pass if there is a vote. Its all our jobs that are in peril. Call your sympathetic Democrats and jam their switchboards at ( 202-224-3121 )

THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING OF THE DEMOCRATIC MOVEMENT AGAINST OBAMA:
An Ohio-based group of Democratic Hillary Clinton supporters say they’ll work actively against Sen. Barack Obama if he becomes the nominee, arguing that Clinton has been the subject of “intense sexism†by party leaders and the media.
Led by Boomer-aged women, the group, Clinton Supporters Count Too, is holding a press conference in Columbus at noon to release this statement.
Organizers Cynthia Ruccia, 55, and Jamie Dixey, 57, both from the Columbus area, say they’re coordinating women, men, minorities, union members and others in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida and Michigan – all important swing states next November – to impress upon Democratic party leaders what they think has been outright discrimination – and not of the racial kind.
“We have been vigilant against expressions of racism, and we are thrilled that the society has advanced that way†in accepting Obama as a serious candidate,†Ruccia said. “But it’s been open season on women, and we feel we need to stand up and make a statement about that, because it’s wrong.â€
With growing calls for Clinton to leave the race, she said, women feel like “we’re being told to sit down, shut up, and get with the program.â€

Mary: You are so correct. I've known about the extremely seamy side of Obama for many months now. His supporters do not have the faintest idea how ruthless this guy is. The Alice Palmer is evidence of that. The way he could stab his "friend and political mentor" in the back to get ahead in his very first campaign, shows that he has never been the candidate of "change." He is in the process of perpetrating the most dangerous hoax on the American public in modern history; and his supporters are following him right into hell.

How is saying that McCain will seek to overturn Roe V Wade scaring people? McCain Has made clear that he wants conservative judges on the court to overturn the decision. That has NATIONAL implications. Not jusy on the state level.
I think that is something that democratic women should seriously consider before casting that vote for old Mac Daddy Cain.

HILLARY SUPPORTERS PLAN OF ACTION:
1. donate to her campaign now- show your support of her continuation
2. If Hillary runs as Independent - vote for her
3. If Hillary does not run as Independent, and Barack Obama is the Nominee for the DNC- write Hillary's name in on the ballot.

Posted by: Still for Hill | May 15, 2008 4:53:15 PM

Sally
Considering that Barack Obama was raised by a single mom, loves women, and is supported by countless women's group, those old women are obviously racists.
And they are using the pathetic excuse of IMAGINED 'sexism' to front for their bigoted cause!
At least the old women in West Virgin had the ovarian fortitude to put their ignorance on display up from; so that it can be corrected.
These bigoted old females are in denial of their racist hearts.

Posted by: Patriot | May 15, 2008 4:56:21 PM

DemocratsUnited: Unfortunately, every election is a choice between the lesser of the evils. One never finds a candidate who is perfect in all ways, so we must balance the equities. In the case of Obama vs. McCain, Obama has shown himself to be the most ruthless and deceptive candidate in my lifetime. Policy is important, but character is even more important, because if you cannot trust your candidate, then nothing else matters. Millions of us do not trust Obama, therefore, his policy pronouncements fall on deaf ears. So, even in spite of the Roe v. Wade issue (which by the way would, at worst, return the issue to the states), a centrist Republican would be far superior to an inexperienced, deceptive, ruthless, divisive, race-card throwing Obama.

Posted by: Sally | May 15, 2008 4:58:51 PM

Patriot - Your Obama "loves women" so much, that he calls them "sweetie" whenever he gets a chance.

Posted by: Boneheaded, Chicago | May 15, 2008 4:59:07 PM

Patriot,
There is nothing to brag about, BHO being raised by a "single mom". Nothing against single mom, but it does make BHO having more family values.
One may ask him what is his value of family values?
Is there anything wrong if someone is raised in a normal, nuclear family?
What's wrong with you people? Now that BHO being raised by a single mom is being counted as his experience to be a president.

I think that is a good plan... it will work! These Obamaphiles are trying to win at all costs and they will shoot themselves in the foot! Bush is right on that one Obama panders and appeaese everyone for votes... he doesnt recognized the true vogte count from certified electons ... just like 2000 when the votes werent counted but when the old bag Katherine Harris certified the election it was done... its the reverse argument here so they have to count the votes... these Obamanuts are pathetic and we will beat them down eventually

Obama is the one in the debates who said he would meet those in Iran or wherever without any preconditions. That showed how naive and inexperienced he is. He can backpedal all he wants, and the analysis is still the same. He is green. If he is elected, he will be making mistakes just like George Bush, because he does not know enough. How is his Senate Committee on NATO doing these days? Oh, I get it, he thinks he will be President and will not need that blank slate on his resume. We do not have to vote for someone so inexperienced, and we will not.
Hillary has a better idea for the Middle East: Work with countries in the Middle East to form their own treaty (similar to NATO), to share their own safety and security. She has vision, knowledge, and the toughness to get something done. Obama is too naive.

Let the Obama votes fall where they may. I voted for her on Super Tuesday in Massachusetts, but there is nothing she can say or do that would convince me to vote for Obama. Hillary doesn't have to talk about Obama's ridiculous stance on the Middle East, he digs himself deeper without anyone's help. Like his documented ties to Hamas, Obama has a host of terrorist pals.
Obama has been personal friends and dinner buddies with Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) member, Rashid Khalidi, for many years. Their attendance at various events together included anti-Israeli sentiments expressed by both speakers and participants.
Khalidi was the director of the PLO press agency in Beirut and served on the PLO guidance committee before becoming a Middle East professor at the University of Chicago.
The PLO is a terrorist organization bent on destroying Israel and engaging in anti-American attacks since the late 1960’s.
Khaldi has hosted political fundraisers for Obama, and while serving as director of the Woods Fund with his other buddy, the Weatherman terrorist Bill Ayers, Obama helped Khalidi secure $40,000 in 2001 and 35,000 in 2002 to fund the anti-Israel oriented Arab American Action Network which Khalidi co-founded.
Since the presidential race commenced, Obama has distanced himself from his longtime friend, Khalidi. When interviewd by the LA Times, Khalidi indicated that Obama’s recent support of Israel rather than Palestine is the result of his bid for the presidency. Sound familiar? Rev. Wright said the same thing about Obama- that he distances himself from his mentors and friends for political expediency.
Like Ayers and Farrakhan, Khalidi also lives in Obama’s Chicago neighborhood. Birds of a feather…

Come on, women make your voices heard by voting for John McCain if not Hillary. I don't think John McCain can be worst than G.Bush but for sure he is better than Obama and at least we know what he stands for. Anyway, history will repeat again if Obama is Dem nominee. Hillary still could be our President in 2012 if not this time.

The "men" in the Democratic Party have always tried to scare women by saying "Roe v. Wade" would be overturned if we vote for the Republican. It's a different society now than what it was 25 years ago. Women should take another look at the democratic party and figure out what they really stand for. I am going to keep a more open mind. As Obama said "it's time for a change." Ladies, I agree we need a change and it may not be the democratic party. Or at least they will need to give us other reasons to vote for them.

NCDem,
I have to say that Edwards cannot help him on foreign policy, but he has with union endorsement and some delegates. The two of them at the endorsement rally almost looked like a SNL skit. I am sorry that Edwards felt he had to do this. His heart is in the right place for his cause, but his image looks a little tattered. He has more stature than that, a great deal more. This is not supposed to be an idol contest. It should be about the person who knows enough about the issues to find solutions.
I hope your analogies are on target. This is not over.

Posted by: georgia | May 15, 2008 10:30:47 PM

It is very surprising to see how many HRC supporters are still in such an obvious state of denial just as their candidate seems to be.
The best thing that could happen to McCain is for the nomination fight to continue and for HRC to back room deal and steal the Democratic nod. The Dems will then completely fracture and hand the election to the GOP one more time.
Gotta love the way this is playing out if you support the Republicans.
Hillary is not staying in for the interest of the party but because she feels entitled. Talk about a total phony. If you believe her changing stances, I have a bridge to sell you in the desert........Kona Gold

kona gold, you have the mistaken idea that this is not a primary election and that it is over. You have had your vote, let everyone else have theirs, including Michigan and Florida. Then let the Democrat Party process complete itself. You must be afraid of something that might happen, like the sky will fall and the superdelegates might change. Relax. This is America, a government of the people, by the people, and for the people.

HILLARY SUPPORTERS AND INDEPENDENTS – BOYCOTT OBAMA: Ohio resident Cynthia Ruccia, a spokesperson for a group calling itself "Clinton Supporters Count Too," said the group stands ready to boycott the Democratic Party if Clinton doesn't win the nomination, and will work against superdelegates who support Obama over Clinton as a means of registering their displeasure with the party. "We have a plan to campaign against Obama," the group said in a press release Thursday. "We have the (wo)manpower and the money to make our threat real. And there are millions of supporters who will back us up in the swing states. If you don’t listen to our voice now, you will hear from us later." Ruccia tells ABC News that she believes "millions" of women share her group's views, though they have only begun to make contact with like-minded women. They're disgusted, she said, that Democratic Party leaders haven't more aggressively denounced sexist media comments and coverage in the campaign, and are angry at the drumbeat for Clinton to get out of the race. "We're just at the boiling point," Ruccia said. "Women will sit back and be quiet about things for a while, but we've had enough. Unless Hillary is our nominee, we are not going to support the nominee." Ruccia said she doesn't necessarily view the disqualifying of delegates from Florida and Michigan as sexist in itself, but added: "I do believe the people there will not forget that Sen. Obama stood in the way of having their vote counted."
This group is real, folks. If you are sick and tired of all of the media bias and those who have been trying to force Obama down our throats, we need to band together and make a difference. Dear ABC News and media in general,
You seem to be able to make Clinton look bad even in this article. On the farm? Is that suppose to be humor, cute, derogatory, all of the above? I realize that the media has the ultimate power in politics and policy (I'm not naive), the most dramatic and dynamic example that comes immediately to mind is Vietnam after the Tet Offensive, but of course, there are too many others to cite here, just a wild off the cuff thought and example. However, I am tired and saddened by the constant beating Clinton takes at the hands of the media, editorializing, not simply reporting as is their duty and should be their objective. Certainly, I admire George Stephanopoulos, Charlie Gibson, and especially Elizabeth Vargas, but in general, the media has all but destroyed Hillary Clinton as our best candidate, most experienced, most knowledgeable, most reliable, and most electible in favor of an arrogant possiblity for the nomination, Obama, who has little to offer but hot air and fluff. Change? What exactly does he want to change? Exactly? He appears to be going with the flow. No change there. How exactly? He does have the ability to speak and persuade, but in speaking strictly of that ability and absolutely NOT content, there have been numerous great orators in history some good, some as evil as a Hilter, persuasive whatever the end. Obama is, at present, spending time defending his patriotism, an issue which should never, never even come up, especially in this race, as it implies that his allegiance to this country has been called into serious question or he would not bother addressing it, and certainly, his wife's patriotism has been seriously questioned (comments from ABC News, round table discussion). The media then has done us a disservice. I see the bias daily, weekly, and monthly, the anti-Hillary comments, some subtle, some direct. Frankly, I'm appalled by media interference in a process that should be fair and unbiased, and I do see that. However, I do realize that when many of the superdelegates support this man, when the Kennedy's and Kerry's come out with endorsements, that Obama would be much easier to manipulate than a Hillary Clinton who as been tried and tested in the arena. Enough said. Almost. If Obama wins this nomination, McCain gets my vote, not maybe but absolutely though I may go screaming to the polls. nmexplorer

goldenstate, You forgot to mention that there are several people who not vote for Obama because he is black. You are naive if you do not believe that is part of the undertone to folks disliking Obama. I have heard from several people....ardent Hillary supporters...who have stated as much. All I can say is I feel sorry for such narrow-minded individuals...

Goldenstate,
If your comment is in reference to mine directly above, I did not bring up race or gender, only the bias of the media which I find unfair and my general objection to Obama. There are many specific objections to Obama. If Obama were similar to a Colin Powell, and Hillary lost the nomination, I would be sad as I do think she is the better candidate, and I am in favor of a woman, but I would not be horrified with a Powell, a great man, but I would be at an Obama. I dislike Obama for very substantial reasons, even some that are just personal feelings, but race and gender were not the substance of my comments above. Yes, there are more than undertones of racism in this contest, but there are also many other strong reasons for not nominating Obama. I am certainly aware, however, that race is an issue in this nomination process as it is apparent from the voting statistics. Gender I believe is also a strong issue though it has been much more subdued. I am not at all certain that men don't fear a woman in power. I don't think that we should feel sorry for a candidate for any reason enough to vote that person into the highest position in the Nation, our representative, our diplomat, our voice, our spirit. K.

I failed to say in my above comments that Obama's hot air and fluff as his primary political rhetoric is shameful and a substantial criticism as he preys upon the innocence of the American voter, not stupidity, but simply innocence born of desperation, critical need, total frustration, and aboslutely of fear. For what? Obama's own ego. That is shameful. It is shameful that the media dismisses the fact that he has blotted his little copybook, difficulties with donors not being upstanding, alleged criminal charges, a pastor for TWENTY years who spouts hate, a need to defend his allegiance to this country, a wife who has expressed that American "is mean." So many other things against this man. But it falls by the way side as unimportant when in fact it should be news headlines and stay there. Not naive! But absolutely acutely aware. But when Hillary makes any statement, it seems to be attacked by the media. The smallest thing, over, and over, and over again. I am so disillusioned with media and its efforts to sabotage Clinton when Obama's faults are dismissed. As someone said above, "Hillary first, then McCain, NEVER Obama."

Since this blog Clinton has come out with a full statement regarding Bush and Mccains comments.
Hillary is my first and only choice for President this year.
I am amazed that so many Democrats are attacking Bush and McCains comments andt these same people were nowhere to be seen to condemn Carter for his recent vacation with Hamas.

Even Hillary agrees not to talk with these terrorists. Something is obviously wrong with Obama. I don't know why he thinks the world revolves around himself. Bush is right, you can't take a tyrant's words lightly. That is just a fact that history has always told us. Obama obviously ignorant and a moron.
