Hey, My Instalanche Is Famous!
Hey!
Yeah, you-- I'm speaking to you, you Jonah Goldberg fan.
Thanks so much for stopping by! But please, do check out the rest of my site, Garfield Ridge. If you like, please come on by again-- I always appreciate new readers!
Now, on to the original post:
-----
What, pray tell, is an Instalanche?
For all you non-bloggers out there, an Instalanche is blogging slang referring to a massive, out-of-the-ordinary spike in site traffic, almost always generated by a link from one of the major blogs on the web.
The name itself comes from Glenn Reynold's Instapundit blog, a site with enough lemon-scented cleaning power to jack a Sitemeter into low-earth orbit via a single link.
Here's a good piece talking more about the coveted Instalanche, with some useful tips on how to get one for yourself.
Well, the Unpopulist, a.k.a. someone I haven't linked to yet but should have long ago, decided that the biggest Instalanche Garfield Ridge has had to date deserves to be recognized, perhaps in humorous textile form.

Garfield Ridge, 1 November 2004: Tower of Power, baby.
Here's the pre-election post that generated all this traffic: "Why I am voting for George W. Bush today."
Why that post tricked it off, and not my screed against infernal housecats, or any one of my warnings against the impending ape apocalypse, I have no idea.
Now, I'm not sure the Sitemeter jump technically qualifies as an Instalanche, if you define an Instalanche as requiring the intervention of Instapundit. Instead, I think my biggest chunk of referrals came from a Jonah Goldberg link in National Review Online's The Corner.
However, I feel comfortable in appropriating the term Instalanche to mean any such random, high-traffic spike (I say it's like Xerox; the trademark is no longer applicable just to a particular brand).
Anyways, thanks to the Unpopulist, my moment of glory is getting another day in the spotlight. Hopefully, with help from you, the readers, I can continue to get cool moments like these.
Remember, my site visits don't need to be sparked by political blogs-- I'm happy getting referrals from gardening blogs, action figure collecting blogs, even Goth deathrock blogs. I just need the traffic, man.
Because, as we all know, bloggers eat site visits for fuel.

I had 4 Instalanches (thanks Glenn!) and they were all about the same size as yours except one that was about 15,000 strong. I happened to be linked by Glenn on his busiest day ever.
Congrats! (Don't spend all day watching the sitemeter churn - I wasted 4 days that way)

Hey guys-- I know, how cool is that?
Of course, I can't all geek out. You don't want to be the only nerd at the table noticing that the cheerleader is looking your way.
I probably just have something on my shirt, that's all.

You know, I think that low-point to the right of the spike is from me--you know, right there between 6 and 7. No one reads my blog, but I at least give you props for standing guard against the damn dirty apes.
Miguel--
Don't worry, I know you're visiting, and I visit in return.
And I genuinely appreciate your support against the ape. We'll need all the help we can get.

Even I pray for an Instalanche someday, when I finally have a consistent stream of good and interesting things to say; at least clever things.
Right now one Instalanche will end up with a bunch of people reading one good post and being turned off by a bunch of surrounding idiocy.
But I know what an Instalanche is and have so for some time. As someone hosted by blogspot and not on my own server, like Garfield Ridge's arrangement, I welcome the traffice and don't fear paying for it.
So... let people investigate my weblog. I don't fear that at all.

web traffic always allows me to drive lots of traffic to my web sites. Having tested and tried literally hundreds of traffic generation methods, I have not found anything that delivers more consistent, quality people to my web sites who buy. I rake in an average of $345. a day simply by plugging five of my favorite affiliate programs into this excellent traffic source and then simply making sure my traffic never expires. Let's face it, everyone is interested in web traffic" and I know if the blog readers here just try this one, they will be very pleased. Enjoyed your post Blogger.
Good evening Blogger, I find it very refreshing to occasionally find a post such as yours with a related topic such as Hey, My Instalanche Is Famous!. It somehow ads to ones list of lifes experiences.
I have a soft spot for blogs related to more web traffic and /or sites that have a central theme around more web traffic type items.
Once again, thank you Blogger, keep up the unusual posts. :-)
