Patent Pending Featured On Alternative Addiction Christmas Compilation

posted by Matt on November 24th, 2008 in News

The website Alternative Addiction has announced the release of their first ever Christmas compilation, An Alternative Christmas. The album is available as a digital-only release with proceedes from sales going to charity.

One of the keystone songs on the album is the original Christmas song, “She’s A Ho Ho Ho Merry Christmas” from Long Island’s PATENT PENDING. The song showcases the band’s trademark, high energy, high fun form of pop punk rock as they put a humorous take on the classic Christmas idea that anyone can change for the better, including those with questionable ethics.

The likes of Better Than Ezra, Kill The Alarm, and Thriving Ivory also make appearances on the compilation consisting of covers of Christmas classics as well as new songs of holiday cheer.

Hurry and get a copy! The compilation will only be available until January 31,2009.

PURCHASE: An Alternative Christmas on Alternativeaddiction.com
PURCHASE: An Alternative Christmas on Amazon
PURCHASE: “She’s A Ho Ho Ho Merry Christmas” on iTunes

Superdrag Are Officially Reunited And Putting Out A New Album

posted by Matt on November 21st, 2008 in Music, News, Superdrag

Last spring we caught SUPERDRAG at their NYC reunion show and it got us wishing they’d be around for more than just a few shows.

Well its now looking like our wishes were heard by someone. The original lineup of Don Coffey Jr, John Davis, Brandon Fisher, and Tom Pappas announced they are officially back and putting out a new studio album! The band just wrapped up the recording of Industry Giants and it’s looking like it will be released on their own label, Superdrag Sound Laboratories on March 17th.

With Blake Schwarzenbach getting back in the game, The Get Up Kids and Far reuniting, seeing Rival Schools back on stage and add on No Knife opening a Jimmy Eat World Clarity x 10 tour we’re having some major flashbacks happenin’ these days.

Check out a new track from Industry Giants the band released on their Myspace page.

Idlewild To Offer Fans An Insiders View With New Album

posted by Matt on November 21st, 2008 in Idlewild, News

IDLEWILD will enter the studio in early 2009 to record their new album. They have put forth an offer to their fans that will allow them almost total access to the recording process.

They will offer the traditional, behind the scenes videos, blogs, updates etc. But it’s the other opportunities the band is offering that makes fanboys like me really take notice. If you pre-order the yet named, and yet recorded album you will get access to loads of goodies.

The band is offering a limited edition CD album (with free download version) in exclusive packaging that will include at least one bonus track. This cd will be shipped to you early within weekd of the album’s completion before the standard release of early Summer.

In addition to the limited edition album coming to you early you will access to two other very superfan perks.

  • Your name will appear in the CD booklet and on a roll-call on the band’s website.
  • You will have access to download 15 free tracks. These will be live recordings from their December 2008 “album by album” performances at King Tuts where the band is scheduled to and play one of their album’s in its entirety each night during the multi-night stint at the UK club.

All you have to do is go to www.idlewildmusic.com and get the fingers clickin’.

The Williamsburg Live Songwriting Competition Gets Judged

posted by Michelle on November 21st, 2008 in News

On this past Saturday, I judged the first night of the Williamsburg Live Songwriting Competition, hosted by Jezebel Music.

Using the basis of songwriting ability, I judged the 25 hopeful artists on their lyrics, melody, ability to play their instrument, and originality. The three winners go on to play the semi-finals this Friday, and with luck, the finals on Saturday. I have a lot of faith in our winners, especially Matthew Dorrien, who was definitely my favorite of the evening!

Eagles Of Death Metal Frontman Reviews The New Guns N’ Roses Album

posted by Matt on November 20th, 2008 in Eagles Of Death Metal, Guns N' Roses, Music, News

Okay we don’t often give props to MTV for anything musically related these days. But we gotta hand it to them for this one. They decided to sit down with EAGLES OF DEATH METAL frontman, Jesse Hughes and have him review the new Guns N Roses album, Chinese Democracy.

Last summer you may remember EODM were on tour opening for GNR when Axl Rose decided to kick the band off the tour almost immediately and dub the band “Pigeons of Shit Metal.”

Beef aside, Jesse made some valid points in his review. Stating it’s tough to call this an actual GNR record and it’s more of an Axl Rose solo album because of the massive lineup changes and it no longer being the group of “L.A. freaks who hit the streets and made you scared.” Hughes also complained about the 16 years it took to get the album made, stating even if he weren’t in the music industry he’d consider that timeframe ridiculous and an “outrage and abuse of the system.”
