If the plethora of Sony Ericsson product placement in Casino Royale wasn’t quite enough for you (Sébastien Foucan’s T68 cameo brought a tear to my eye…), be glad to know that there are plenty more coming your way on October 31st when the new Bond movie, Quantum of Solace comes out.

Pretty much every major character in the movie has some cellphone enjoyment, but we are ensured that it will not be jarring or distracting from the film’s events in any way.

The following handsets will be getting top billing:

C902 in Titanium Silver - only the best for Bond, James Bond.

W350i in Graphic White - for the obligatory Bond love interest. She’s clearly a big fan of music on the go…

G700 in Mineral Grey - M (Judi Dench) can’t run MI6 without that 3G connectivity and touchscreen!

G700 - Mathis may have betrayed Bond, but it doesn’t mean that he has a poor choice in mobiles! Also the phone for the big baddie of the piece, Villiers.

W910 -The handset of choice for the CIA (apparently). Perhaps music shake control was a necessity for the spies in Langley.

G900 -Another Sony smartphone for new character Green.

W707 - this handset may have sadly been cancelled, but it will live on for all eternity on celluloid as the phone of new character ‘Elvis’.

What, no Xperia? It took nearly as long for the X1 to come to market as this movie took to make, so it could have easily snuck in there… I guess that nice limited edition boxset needs to sell some more C902s.

Sony phones and James Bond are actually quite a good fit, as this new ad shows!

It looks like all those whiny stewardess announcements could be true, as the Australian Transport Safety Bureau are exploring the possibility that a ‘wireless device’ could be to blame for an altitude drop of over 1000 feet in 30 seconds on a Quantas flight.

The Airbus was on a routine flight from Singapore to Australia when pilots lost control and to make an emergency landing after the extreme circumstances resulted in numerous injuries.

Investigators are looking into whether anyone was using a computer or mobile phone at the time, as it may well have caused electromagnetic interference to the navigation systems of the aircraft.

However, conflicting reports seem to find the plane’s software as the root of the problem. Could it be a classic cover up at work, or were passengers flouting the rules?

The investigation continues.

Rumours say it might be an Orange exclusive, it definitely has been delayed to 2009, but you can still get a quick fiddle with the first big design shakeup from the Finnish manufacturer with this cool new Nokia 5800 microsite!

A touchscreen device might not translate that well to the confines of a monitor, but it does a good job of demonstrating just what makes it stand out from the crowd of finger-dependant phones at the moment. The one-handed texting option seems particularly cavalier, and the user interface is a breath of fresh air from the iPhone’s swipe happy surface!

Even the Comes With Music functionality gets a little demonstration, with a selection of tracks from R&B sensation Estelle. Given the frosty reception the networks are giving the price hike of Comes With Music (they already had their own plans about digital distribution, didn’t they?), it seems the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic might have an uphill struggle to get into stores, but it looks set to fly straight off them and into music lovers’ pockets as soon as it does.

One of the perks of driving in Formula 1 for McLaren Mercedes, aside from being able to just ask for an SLR and get it for free, aside from being able to get with one of the PussyCat Dolls and travel the globe for your career zooming at breakneck speed and being besieged by fans, is to get to show off new phones from your sponsors!

So here’s Lewis Hamilton getting paid to provide Vodafone’s BlackBerry Storm 9500 with the much needed “cool factor” that the T-Mobile G1 sorely lacks (apparently).

Worst thing? It actually does look really cool! That browser is slick, the UI looks tidy (if Vodafone-d to the gills) and the accelerometer switching videos from portrait to widescreen on the fly is nice!

Saw Nicole from the Pussycat Dolls close up a bit ago. She ain’t all that, so I’m not jealous! The fact that he owns a Storm, however…

Amidst all of the fanfare regarding the new breed of 8 megapixel cameraphones like the Sony Ericsson C905 and the Samsung i8510, comes a great little number under the radar from LG…

The KC780 will be released in the UK at the end of November, and is a powerhouse as far as snapping photos is concerned. A veritable waif at 13.9 mm thick, the KC780 is a slider handset with a 2.4″ QVGA screen, Bluetooth v2.1 and all sorts of PC connectivity that turns it into a wireless webcam!

It may not have 3G connectivity, but it is still certainly a handset for the snap happy crowd to consider this Xmas.

With the major record labels of Sony BMG, EMI, Universal and Warner finally secured, Play.com’s digital download service is set to be the first to truly challenge iTunes - but with the added allure of no DRM.

PlayDigital offers over 3 million tracks to download, spanning the gamut of new releases as well as a bulging back catalogue of tunes, free to play on any MP3 compatible device - including mobiles - with no fear of licencing restriction.

Wendy Snowdon, Head of PlayDigital states: “It was only a matter of time before the other three major labels came on board and we now have an offer to rival that of iTunes, yet in a format that gives the consumer choice and at a more appealing price.â€

Despite the existence of alternatives like HMV and Amazon’s online MP3 store, none have had the variety of music that iTunes had offered. With singles priced from 65p and albums a clear quid cheaper than iTunes at £4.99, seems like Play.com can deliver a lot more than mobile phone release dates!

After the news of Apple’s iPhone surpassing their target of 10 million sales in 2008, there has been a flood of even more impressive facts showing just how much the iconic device has turned the mobile phone industry on its head.

Apple Insider reports that NPD figures have the iPhone is the second best selling handset in the U.S. market, with only the Motorola RAZR v3 moving more units. Wait, what? The V3?! In 2008?

The clamshell design, and that phone in particular has singlehandedly kept Motorola going for at least 10 years. StarTAC anyone? After nuclear winter, when the earth is barren tundra and a husk of flaming rock, all that will be left is cockroaches…and the Motorola RAZR v3.

Anyway, the iPhone is also making serious waves in the smartphone sector, with the 3G iteration helping the handset carve out a 17% share of the entire American swanky-phone market. That made it the number one selling posh mobile between June and August, surpassing the all-mighty BlackBerry as the weapon of choice for salarypeople this summer.

Obviously, this had the knock on effect of many subscribers jumping ship to join the good ship AT&T, making the iPhone’s network exclusivity a very shrewd move for network and manufacturer alike. 47% made the move from rival Verizon, whilst 24% left T-Mobile’s magenta wonderland…

With the touchscreen smartphone seeming like a licence to print money for Apple, is it any surprise that there are no less than 812 more coming out in the next six months? Okay, 7, but you get what I mean.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 Panels Control New Saab, Puts Gadget Lovers In Cruise Control

It may have taken 11 years, but finally an Ericsson handset allows you to control your car remotely, a la James Bond’s awesome car chase in Tomorrow Never Dies.

Whilst it may fall short of allowing you to fire missiles and powerslide around Brent Cross car park (it really is!), the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 can connect via Bluetooth to the Saab 9-X BioHybrid car, with a dedicated panel on the phone’s touchscreen interface offering control over tons of features.

Shown off at last week’s Paris Motor Show, quite a few things can be handled via the Xperia, including locking/unlocking the car, opening the boot, switching lights on and off, and controlling the seat settings!

Check out the future of automotive technology below:

This page contained an embedded video. Click here to view it.

Barring the Audi TT, the conceptual nature of the 9-X means it will never see the tarmac, and we will probably never get to try out this kind of interactivity in the real world. Still, Q would be proud at that gadgety goodness Sony and Saab have managed to get going with Windows Mobile…

The Saab 9-X looks real nice, couldn’t they just fit one little rocket launcher on it?
