For use in internet cafes it would be great to have something like a “floating foxmarks” based on java or just a small window of your browser. So you could easiely and safely use your foxmarks.

@Stephan: You’ll be happy to know that you can access your bookmarks from any web browser. Simply visit the Foxmarks website and then click on “My Foxmarks” in the top navigation bar. Once you login with your Foxmarks username and password, you’ll be able to view and modify your bookmarks.

@HÃ¥kan: We don’t have immediate plans for a Safari version. As a small company it’s hard for us to invest in multiple different clients all at once, but we would love to support Safari down the road. I second the request for a Safari version! Perhaps MobileMe will resolve this issue, but currently there is no easy/good way to sync Firefox bookmarks to your iPhone. If a Safari Foxmarks plugin could sync my Firefox bookmarks, I would be one step closer to sync heaven.

Man… mark my words… this thing is going to hit hard on the Internet in a very short time. If the technical challenges could be overcome Foxmarks will move from being simply a Firefox extension (well, not simply… the best.) to become a factor to be seriously considered in the future of browser wars. It’s complete, platform independent, browser independent portability. Fear of loosing customization will stop being a factor keeping people from switching browsers. What, at first sight, could be seen as a bonus for IE users actually will be a giant venue for people to migrate from IE… Mozilla should be all over it!

Well, Mozilla has their own version of this. It’s called Weave.
Not just for bookmarks though, but also history, cookies, saved passwords, etc.

Does it run on IE?

Tried editing the wiki earlier. I am most certainly not enjoying the Foxmarks experience tonight, that’s for sure.

Jesus MF Xhrist. This wiki sucks. Wiki and Firefox 3 on Win XP and are not friends (never worked). Wiki and Opera 9.5 on Win XP are not friends (worked once, then borked). Wiki and IE 7 on WinXP are not friends (worked once and maybe twice for this edit). FWIW, I’d bail for Opera in a heartbeat if it had Web Developer and Operamarks widgets! ~~~~

I think we definitely need a feature that allows the exclusion of synchronised folders for example I’d like to prevent the synchronisation of all my adult bookmarks (in a folder) with the bookmarks I use at work!!!

@foxguin: Sorry for the trouble with the wiki; we’re working on getting that fixed. Generally just reloading the page (re-posting the form submission) will fix things, though.

@Jeffrey: One extra benefit that we offer is IE support. This is great for users who don’t use Firefox, or use both IE and Firefox (e.g. “I like Firefox at home, but at work the IT policy is to use IE”).

and i need a formarks for Opera?

Just a fantastic product. 1,500 bookmarks in sync. When my IE copies are also in sync it will be superb.

The only bookmark-y thing letting the (FF) fide down is not being able to pin one’s bookmarks in a sidebar like IE7

As you were, AIOS does the sidebar job perfectly

Eager to know when the IE ver of Foxmark will be available. The think I keep on using FF is Foxmark. FF often crashes in my Vista.

do you plan to integrate the synchronisation with our own server like in the FF plugin? I would need this feature and this would solve all my problems in synchronizing bookmarks between my FF and the business IE!

@RiDDleR: We’ve not ruled it out for future implementations, but are focusing right now on just getting synchronization working properly. Stay tuned!

Looking forward to Foxmarks for IE7+, so keep the effort going guys. What I would also like is for Foxmarks to be able to synchronise with a URL that I provide, rather than this mysterious “black hole” of a web site known only to Foxmarks. I’m a web developer by profession so knocking together a web service or similar wouldn’t be an issue.

Reason for this request is that there’s always the chance that the “black hole” that my favourite links get posted into could be used by unknown people for nefarious purposes. I don’t visit “dodgy” web sites, but the nature of my employment could potentially raise issues with my clients if they thought I was broadcasting via their networks. And how do I know that Foxmarks isn’t quietly giving away details of accessing my online finances web site logons?

Regarding your concerns about syncing your data with Foxmarks, rest assured, we are super conscious about how important keeping this data safe and secure is. Foxmarks does not give away details about your personal data to anyone. We may use bookmark data in aggregate (e.g. what is the hottest website about knitting on the web?) but we will never do so in a manner that will identify any single individual.

We take privacy very seriously (after all, our founder Mitch Kapor also co-founded the Electronic Frontier Foundation). Please read our privacy policy for details.

Furthermore, we do not have access to your financial (or other) logins, because we only sync your bookmarks today. In the near future we do plan on offering a password sync feature with strong client-side encryption, or in plain English: nobody other than you will ever be able to look at those passwords, not even us.

All that said, if you’d still rather have complete control over your data, we have a solution for that too! You can use Foxmarks with your own server. Read our FAQ about own server use for details on how to set this up.

i want to test Foxmarks plugin for IE

@Shawn the signing up button for IE7 seems to be causing problems when viewed in FF. I switched to IE, it worked well and I’m now on the program.

OMG…Just finished the Foxmarks b-testers questionaire where I opined that FF should be coded to work with all browers EXCEPT Exploiter, which has a history of trying it’s best any keep other brower from existing. When finishing the survey I get shuffled off to this bit of news.

Remember this is from the same company that is attempting to stuff Vista down everyones gullet. When absolutely forced to use MS I use XPPro in a virtual box, VMWares products go a long way in isolating you from the evils of Redmond.

I use Plain old Favorites plugin for Firefox, which allows me to (slow and tedious) go to a Favorite or Bookmark, and make a new Bookmark or Favorite.. Foxmarks handles the rest of migrating a link from IE in one computer to IE in another. I liked the import feature of Safari/Windows, but it does not have a simple way to update the Favorites and Bookmarks with the latest changes.

Foxmarks for IE7 has been working great, although for the past day or so it has not been able to sync and giving an error

Great! In my company, the IT install IE7 only. But we are not allowed and not able to install Ad-ons or plugins (e.g.like the Google Bar or the like) either.
So no point for me.

Generally, I don’t agree with the opinion that FoxMarks for IE will make a difference for people migrating tho FF. You can import your Favorites (once) and try the browser since ages - If you find for some reason, you like it better than IE - who cares about further syncing favs to bookmarks on his/her home PCs?.

so.. If mobileme can sync between ie and my iPhone, then this ie foxmarks is the missing link!

@SuAlfons: Good point, but some people like(or need) to use certain browsers for certain sites and would rather not switch between browsers(even though I don’t see that being too much trouble). Although I don’t use Foxmarks in that way, I believe it is definitely a valid use for the extension/plugin.

Sweet - just what I needed.

What would make the Foxmarks plugin perfect - was Konqueror support. Konqueror and KDE4.x are slowling being ported to the more dominant mainstream platforms.

@SuAlfons: I think you are looking at it much too narrow minded. For me Foxmarks is a great addon; in our company we are not allowed to use Firefox; however I can install addons (I could in theory install firefox as well).
Since installing firefox can give a bootload of trouble I am not going to it at my workplace; also we do have loads of internal pages on our portal which are simply not accessible via firefox (badly built pages, but that is not the point here) - though I don’t enjoy it I keep with IE at work on firefox at home, and here it would of course be very beneficial to have foxmarks working both on IE and on firefox.
I use another similar service, which however has an own set of links, so I need to be careful when creating new links; also at times this other server is down, then I cannot access those bookmarks at all. All in all I would love to have foxmarks do this job completely for me and work on IE and FF.
I know that my situation is not too special; many big corporations have opted to disallow usage of anything other than IE while at the same time not being as restrictive to completely disable any local installations.

As a photographer I work on different platforms, IE is something I don’t use a long time now but Firefox and Safari are my main browsers.
I love foxmark but to bad it doesn’t have that client for Safari (Mac OS X and Windows). If a plugin for safari could come I would be very happy

@Marc: Sorry for the delayed response; it seems to be working okay for me, though. How is it not working for you?

I really hope that this IE version will achieve the same quality and seamless functionality as the Firefox counterpart.
