Foxmarks.com Gets a Makeover

We’re excited to announce the launch of our new website! We hadn’t updated it in a while and decided to show it some much needed love before the big Firefox 3 launch. Apart from the new look, the website sports lots of other improvements too:

A Features page that tells you about all the cool things Foxmarks can do An animated Tour that describes what Foxmarks is and how it works A Jobs page (yes, we’re hiring!) A direct link to Foxmarks Mobile (it works on your iPhone, too)

By the way, the Backup and Restore feature mentioned on the site is just around the corner. We’ll be announcing it and making it available to you early next week.

I just found out about foxmarks after reading in an article that the Google Browser Synch (bookmark syncing for Firefox) was being discontinued. Someone mentioned foxmarks in the comments section of the article. Thank you for offering this service!! I can’t wait to get back home and set it up, as well as try it out on my iPhone.

Same as Carlos, I read about Google Browser Synch being discontinued and I NEED my bookmarks since I use web apps for mobility purposes..
I use Linux and some Mac and Win and just at home I work often on 4 different computers so Im thrilled that you guys are doing this add-on.

You should be getting a lot of Google Browser Synch users looking for a solution.

I seem to get the 2 inch gray status bar when I use the latest foxmarks! When I disable foxmarkste statusbar goes back to normal..

I’ve been using Foxmarks for a long time now (and I really like the new look of the site by the way) but it’s not entirely a replacement for Google Browser Sync. I’ve used both for the past few months, since with GBS you can sync what tabs you have open, enabling me to continue working on the same sites if I switch from desktop to laptop and back. That’s functionality I’ll miss when GBS goes down.

I’d love to see more things synced through Foxmarks, but even so, definitely one of my essential extensions.

Its cool that you have sync profiles but I cant figure out how to use them or see where they are even set. You need better instructions for this.

I have been using Foxmarks for 6 months now - it is an excellent product and service. I use it from my customer site which has IE 6.0.28 in a locked down dekstop. The new Web site does not display ….. possibly IE 6 is no longer supported? Your help would be much appreciated.

@Christian Hovden,

You can disable the status bar icon in Foxmarks. In the Tools -> Foxmarks menu, uncheck the option called Show Status Icon. This should prevent your status bar from displaying if you prefer it hidden.

For future support issues please email us directly: support@foxmarks.com.

The new website design is great!!

Foxmarks is perfectly match my expectation on a bookmark sync program. Not so much annoying functions provided (e.g. del.icio.us or google bookmark does).

Simple is the best. Do one thing. Do the best.

Keep on going. Foxmarks!

I can’t download the latest release through addons.mozilla.org. Have been trying for days. What’s wrong?

@Xylenz: You need to be in our beta program to use the selective synchronization options. Please see our features page for more details: http://www.foxmarks.com/features

@Peter Ellenby: The Foxmarks extension isn’t quite ready for IE yet (though we’re in alpha for it)–do you perhaps mean http://my.foxmarks.com/?

@Hans Meier: The recent release of Firefox 3 was causing some issues with extension downloads. You might have some luck now, or maybe by checking some of the common causes in the Mozilla support pages: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Unable+to+install+add-ons

I absolutely cannot recover my bookmarks that disappeared again for the 3rd time in 6 months. I liked the way the former bookmark page worked ( except for loosing the bookmarks).
The new bookmark system is confusing for me and aggravates my mental illness.
Add to this I haven’t received a response to my previous email to you about trying all of your remedies to no avail.
I love Mozilla Firefox, Foxmarks has been a thorn in my side.

@Deanne Natividad: We don’t seem to have ever received an email from you–it might have been lost in transit. Please try emailing us again, thanks!

Our experience has been that lost bookmarks are generally caused by a known bug in the Firefox 2 browser that can happen even if Foxmarks isn’t installed, but Foxmarks can help a lot in restoring your bookmarks via the Restore feature found under the “Tools” option at http://my.foxmarks.com/

Thank you for providing us a mobile link. I’d love it if we were able to sync with our embedded iPhone bookmarks but this is a very good substitute!

This is a great Add-on to have. It had a few bugs at first but they seem to be getting better, i still get ‘Foxmarks has encountered an error pretty often’ but it usually fixes itself.

The biggest issue i have is the logging. With it enabled it never flushes the log file and my log file was over 890 MB!!! I was wondering why Firefox froze for 5 minutes at a time when Foxmarks decides to randomly sync.

I definitely disabled the log file!

I’d love a Foxmarks app for the iPhone, which improves the Foxmarks Mobile by

1) Making navigating around bookmarks more iphone-ified.

2) Integrate a search like the non-mobile website. This is essential, especially with Firefox 3 because the smart address bar means bookmarks are much less organised now.

3) Sync with the built-in Safari’s bookmarks.

With #3, if it’s not possible to do this (I don’t know the limitations of the API) you could alternatively do you own browser with its own bookmarks. This is certainly possible - a number of apps in the App Store embed the safari browser so this should be fairly easy to do as far as that part is concerned.

Wonderful application! Awesome that IE will soon be supported! But now, how about something MORE than just a MyFoxmarks Mobile website?

How about a full iPhone MyFoxmarks application ?!?!?!?!!?
