Former news anchor was anchored by his faith.
Fox News is reporting this morning that its former news anchor and former Bush administration press secretary Tony Snow has died of cancer. Snow was 53.
Read the Fox News obit here, and read Snow's 2007 article "Cancer's Unexpected Blessings" for Christianity Today here.
Here's a brief excerpt from that article:
The moment you enter the Valley of the Shadow of Death, things change. You discover that Christianity is not something doughy, passive, pious, and soft. Faith may be the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. But it also draws you into a world shorn of fearful caution. The life of belief teems with thrills, boldness, danger, shocks, reversals, triumphs, and epiphanies. Think of Paul, traipsing though the known world and contemplating trips to what must have seemed the antipodes (Spain), shaking the dust from his sandals, worrying not about the morrow, but only about the moment.
There's nothing wilder than a life of humble virtue—for it is through selflessness and service that God wrings from our bodies and spirits the most we ever could give, the most we ever could offer, and the most we ever could do.

The first time I posted on Christianity Today was for a Tony Snow article. God bless him! I hope he went brimming to the top with delight and contentment from being assured of his eternal salvation. Watching Tony Snow’s White House news conferences showed this is a man of remarkable and admirable intelligence. Dealing with a deadly disease is hardly an easy thing, and I know he must have walked closely with God throughout his life (to gain the strength to go through life.) This is a man of great accomplishment! I praise his faith to Christ, and the work he has done for the body of Christ. I will pray for him and his family.

That's death? A mythological valley of mysterious wonders beyond all comprehension and the continuing of a journer? I'd rather just rot and end it. I lived a good life, full of busty women and drink, as well as cool cars and the experiences of delight. I don't need any more.

Well Jose, Tony Snow would have wanted you to see the light, and so do I. That is all from me to you Jose; the rest you can get from the gospels.

I've listened to several "spots" yesterday and today about the death of Tony Snow, all very positive and uplifting. I watched the 3 major network morning "talk shows" and waited in vain for any mention of their colleague's death. What's up with that?!

Jose: guess again ? Without Jesus, you will indeed rot, forever in hell, but it will not end there Jose as much as you would like it to. It will never end as you are tormented day and night without end by the horrifying demons and unspeakable torments hell was prepared for, along will all who reject the only way of salvation, The Lord Jesus Christ. Your humor does not amuse Me. Your laughter will be turned to eternal mourning if you don't turn from your sins NOW and receive My Son. Your time is running out. Your days are numbered. Flee My wrath and recieve my love in Jesus while you can. Soon there will be NO escape for you Jose, no escape. Read this and take heed. This is no joke.

"I'd rather just rot and end it" -- not an option. Tony Snow's lived-out faith was admired by both friend and foe and he blessed many. Even as he lay dying he encouraged others. A life lived for selfish pleasure, however busty or fast, has no such power. Nor will it long be remembered dearly, as this one will. Just how does one define, "a good life"? Thanks Tony, I'll see you later.

Tony Snow was a kind and gentle soul.
This video was made with the intent to bring comfort to those who knew him as well as those of us who simply felt as if we did.
Godspeed, Mr. Snow.

When someone who knows they are dying shares his/her faith in an almighty God it gives the living eternal hope (I mean the sure kind). It this unstable world we live in the only real stability is in a personal relationship with a loving Savior.

My prayers go out to his family and friends. There is no doubt that he is healthy and happy once again, and enjoying the rewards that he has received because of his faith. He was a wonderful and hard working man.
Jose, I can only feel bad for you, not only because you have had only that, but because it is all that you need.

Tony has discovered whether all the promises, words, and deeds of Jesus were either true, or lies/falsehood. He had faith.... that's what Jesus asked of us in order to recieve all He offered and promised. Tony put his confidence in Jesus. Think again Jose!

Newsfan - All of the major networks talked about it in the morning shows on Monday. I think there may have been a delay because it happened over the weekend, so perhaps you expected to see something on Sunday and that is what you were thinking about. I didn't watch the Sunday news shows, so I can't say whether or not they said anything. Other than that, all I can say is maybe you were on a bathroom break. It didn't get the same play as Tim Russert's death, but on the other hand, Tim Russert unexpectedly dropped dead while on the job, and everyone knew that Tony Snow's end was near, so it was no surprise. I heard wonderful tributes to Tony Snow on all of the major networks.

CathyWe,
You said, "that's what Jesus asked of us" meaning faith. And the great thing about it is that He gave us faith in Himself. He did what we could not do! Praise to Jesus Christ who brings us to faith
and keeps us in that one true faith! By hearing the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit creates that faith.

I loved this man, I never met him, but I got to speak with him on the radio show once. I will miss him. I pray the the people who knew him will reflect on the way he lived his life and be compeled explore the gift of forgiveness Christ gave Tony that enabled him to be this great man.

Robbie Snow referenced this article in his eulogy at Tony's funeral yesterday. It has been on various national news outlets.
