I went to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution website to check out the cast of the upcoming "Real Housewives of Atlanta" reality show. I had heard for months that Bravo was about to do the show with a cast of Black "housewives."
Well, imagine my surprise (only, not really) when I looked at the comment section of the article and it's filled with haters galore. The usual racist subjects came out of the woodwork. It seems the prospect of Obama in the White House and a dismal economy have got the UnderCover Haters running to their collective keyboards to display their *true* nature.

From the jist of the comments on this board I think Bravo should reconsider their choices. With the real estate market going to hell in a hand basket, I doubt these women and their husbands are living lavishly…champagne taste on a waters budget so to speak. I really feel that there are many more elite and profound citizens of the Atlanta area than those chosen, most definitely poor representation.I can smell the GHETTO-fied drama already. PUUHLLEEZE!

This is a joke. These woman are successful at doing only one thing…..spending the hard earned money of their “professional” husbands or ex-husbands. DeShawn Snow in particular is the laughing stock of the real estate community. EDJ Realty only survived for as long as it did because of Eric Snow’s money and boy did DeShawn spend lots of it to gain her “image!” (Or so she thinks) Last I heard, Solid Source Realty (a discount real estate company) was holding her real estate license.
NOTE None of them are currently doing anything. They are all planning a new venture. Or should I say planning to conquer a “new paycheck” from another successful man. SHAME, SHAME

These are the classiest “ladies” they could find to do this show…, anyone with a shred of dignity would never expose themselves to this ridicule - and wouldn’t make for an interesting show anyway. Thanks so much Bravo for making atlanta look bad, I for one won’t be watching The real baby mamas of ATL

Why does every comment about someone that does not agree with you have to be racist? Just for the record, my husband and I are very successful African-American business owners that has had occassion to encounter all of these individuals, except one at different events around Atlanta over the past few years. They are “misfits.” No class at all, they are always seeking attention, and are truly a source “humor”; make for good table conversation. Ask Ms. Snow which boards she sits on, nothing of any substance; very misleading to say the list. She is not associated with United Way, Habitat to Humanity, The Boys and Girls Club, or any other worthwhile humanitarian cause. Certainly she is not on the board of Delta Airlines, Georgia Power, or any major corporation. It is all a bunch of fluff created by an enormous bank account that funds her foolishness.

For those that love to spew hatred (be it racial hatred or self-hate ala "crabs in a basket") Black women living good lives are NOT going away, so you better find a way to deal with it. I don't know anything about the lives of these ladies and neither do some of the people making ignorant comments about them.

And these ladies are different from the other housewives how?!?!?! Is it because they're a darker shade of brown? This will probably be one of the few reality tv shows that I'll watch because of the sistas. I wonder if one of this black ladies will be fall on their a** drunk, like the ladies on the other 'Housewives' show, or just dating dudes, just like other housewives as well.

Nikki - I usually pass on most reality shows, but I make check out some of these episodes. I did see a few of RHW OC & NY and uhmmm...yea, those were some really *classy* ladies. Whatever...lol.

I refuse to believe that any of these women are BW, not even the one who claims to be one. Black women spend their time praying to be represented fairly, instead of having the "New Yorks" of the world displaying their ignorance on TV. It's a shame how hateful ppl can be!

I honestly preferred the way your site was before, easier to post. Just wanted to addd that the picture of Robert Buckley you have on the side is too funny. It's as if the sister in purple is on her phone to a friend saying: "Girl, you will not believe the hotness that is in my front right now!" See how she's even opening her mouth, drooling. If it was me, I'd have jumped on him and never let go! Lol!

I frequently read comments posted by readers on the AJC and, in fact, almost all of them turn racial. I now avoid reading any comments posted by readers.

That's the only info I could find about air dates thus far.

As someone who lives in Atlanta. I agree with the comments. These women live up to our city's reputation of being the baby mama capital of the US and gold diggers. Unlike previous Real Housewives, these women have no 'real' careers. Two of them, I won't same names, have reputations of being conniving and treacheous to other black women. These women are not the model of success we want our daugthers to immulate.

jalilimaster, As a mother of a tween and a teen I know my daughters at the age they have roles models in pop culture. Hell, I had them, Madonna is and still is mine.
Parents are always in a battle with popular culture for the mind of their children. Take all this teen and unwed pregnancy going on. Our daughters see this and believe it our not they are taking it all in.

This is soo true. In most cases these skanks/villians are ALWAYS black women, didnt know this constant depiction of BW in reality shows was as common in the US as it is in the UK!...I mean you just have to look at the current Big brother UK (for those that watch it)....first they was Alex who was portrayed as your "typical" loud, ghetto, agressve/bully BW terrorising the white contestants on the show (we've had a couple in the past well)...until they finally ejected her from the show because she was apparently "threatening" to send her "gangster friends" on the white contestants for putting her up for eviction. She's been into hiding ever since, as people have started sending her DEATH threats (this happened to another BW on the last series as well, after she came out of the BB house she got badly beaten up by a bunch of WW and got her weave snatched out on a TV show...talk about hatred, I just felt like screaming "its just a tv show for phucks sake, get a life, geesh!!")
If anyone is watching this series, what did you make of sylvia's behaviour (a BW) towards stuart (a WM) over the past two weeks?? :-)...all I can say is, it was the first time I've watched a TV show through my fingers and mouth hanging wide open...yes it was THAT cringeworthy...oh my giddy gosh...lets just say she's been named as the worst "bunny-boiler" in big brother HISTORY!!!..enuff said! :-)

I think CW hit it on the head. In other shows, white women are given the benefit of the doubt. But black women are automatically seen as "baby mommas" - not wives, "conniving/treacherous" - not resourceful or business orientated. Whether these women are poor role models or not isn't the point, -- its television, there are BARELY any role models anymore & kids probably shouldn't watch anything other than PBS -- the point is Black women start at the bottom & have to fight their way to the top while having crap hurled at them the entire way whereas White women are placed on a pedestal right from jump.

nana, yes, I'm watching BB. When Sylvia came out, I realised why she didn't get why her behaviour was seen as so bad. What was shown on t.v. happened over a couple of days. But seeing it over a couple of hours makes it seem like it was constant.
What is annoying is the fact that these girls are just too stupid to realise that they are playing up to stereotype and in the process, embarassin themselves. Alex was, in my opinion, a bully. She was disgraceful and absolutely disgusting. I am not going to make excuses for her just because she is black. It's even worse because she was warned and corrected so many times, yet was to dumb to listen.
As for Sylvia, things were only made worse for her because she is a pretty black girl. That's why the other attractive white chick on the show, Jen, got off easy, because the primary audience, white females, saw it as the black girl in the 'love square' with two very hot white males and another white female, and they only wanted the love triangle where the white girl was the be-all-and-end-all.
Afterall, the moment Sylvia was voted out, everyone all of sudden 'realised' how bitchy Jen was. She was the exact same as she had always been, the only difference is that their prefferred scapegoat, the hot black chick, was no longer availabe!
