Nathan Gerbe also makes me want hockey

Nathan Gerbe also makes me want hockey

Remember last year when the Sabres went on a 10 game loosing streak?  Basically it killed their opportunities to get into the playoffs.  What ended that 10 game streak?  A 10 to 1 defeat of the Atlanta Thrashers on January 18th, a Friday Night Game.

The Scoring Summary:

Michael Phelps……I’m over it…

•August 18, 2008 • 3 Comments

Check out that tattoo down on his pelvic area. yeah, you like that.

As you all know (or not) I (Alli) am heading back to school in a week. For those counting, this is my 7th year of college (4 undergrad and now onto 3 grad years) and I’m still going strong….ok, no, actually I am so over this grad school thing its not even funny but I won’t go into it. However, due to this inconvenience, my time will be pretty much completely occupied and you probably will not see a blog from me for quite some time (I know, right, uber sad). But, before I go I wanted to share some closing thoughts on Michael Phelps.

In general, I am over it. Yes, he’s pretty effin awesome. Yes, he’s probably one of the greatest Olympians of all time. Yes, he kinda has a goofy face but a damn good body and millions of dollars in endorsements. But my question is, what will happen to him once the olympics end? What happens to all Olympians after the Olympics end? They fade away, that’s what. We will remember his name, he’ll date a few models, he’ll do some endoresments and make a buttload of cash, he’ll get another dwi, but after a year we won’t give him a second thought until the next Olympics come around and maybe he wins a few more medals. The same is true for all Olympians. Do we really care about Shawn White unless the winter Olympics or maybe the x-games are on… no, no we don’t, we don’t give a shit at all. Did we care about Kerri Strug after she broke her ankle to win the gold? Maybe for a month, what is she doing now? Nothing. We forgot about Bruce Jenner until his step daughter’s ass became famous. We forgot about Mark Spitz until Phelps broke his record. Did we care about the hottness that is Apollo Anton Ohno after he dazzled us at the last winter games and then (be still my heart) was even more amazing and magical and won Dancing with the Stars? Well, most normal people didn’t care, except me, who, for a period had his face as the background my computer but that’s neither here nor there… What I am trying to say is that Olympians capture our heart for two weeks every few years and we all become obsessed and join 45 facebook groups devoted to them, then a month or less after the games end they fade into the shadows until, if they are lucky enough, they surface at the next games which they never do as good at and then we forget about them forever and they end up working at Home Depot. So, in summary, get over Michael Phelps, just move on. You’ll forget about the Olympics by September. He’s not Michael Jordon, he’s not Wayne Gretzky, he’s not Apollo Anton Ohno….

In related (but not) news. Check out the hottness that is Rafael Nadal on the cover of the New York magazine. He can return my serve any day if you know what I’m saying… (nudge nudge…get it…)

Since When was Max Payne cool?

•August 18, 2008 • 2 Comments

It looks like its pretty cool, but I never played the video game.  But after watching the trailer acouple questions:

There were demons in the game? It was basically a copy of Sin City? The guy who choice the 300 soundtrack is making mad cash? And why is Mark Wahlberg now the smartest actor, after being the dumbest musician?

Cd Review: Lewis Black - Anticipation

•August 17, 2008 • No Comments

Now i know it is not a music CD, but god is it one hell of an awesome comedy cd.  Lewis Black packs in his very loud in your face humor into this CD, touching on topics such as golf, virginity, Christmas, Santa being president, gambling and so on.  I haven’t laughed out loud in a while…and god does Lewis Black know where my funny bone is.  While the CD seemed short, it had me laughing my balls off.

Donnie B Idols: Anthony Bourdain

Anthony Bourdain

Anthony Bourdain

I’d love to write about our trip to NY more but honestly, I have no urge.  New York was awesome.  Period.  So I’m going to write about something else because our lack of posting is severely impacting our hit count.

Before we left for NYC I began downloading every No Reservations episode I could .  I managed to get every episode except for two (thank you BitLord).  No Reservations (don’t be confused with the horrible movie) stars world renown chef Anthony Bourdain and his travels all over the world searching out unique foods and cultures that wouldn’t normally be exposed.  As I write this, I’m watching the Los Angeles episode and wishing that I would have eaten some types Asian noodles in NYC.

The Complete NYC Trip

•August 14, 2008 • 1 Comment

This entry will be where all of our lovely readers will be able to get the complete story behind the trip to NYC.  We’ll go over each little bit of lovely-ness, so enjoy!  (Links will be added as we finish the pages, so keep checking)

On the eve of battle…

•August 9, 2008 • 1 Comment

We at Bizzle Bros would like to inform our viewers that for the next 5 days we (Don, Tom and Alli and our dad)  will be on a trip to NYC.  For Tom it will be his first visit, so I’ll make sure to capture his enjoyment.  In addition we will be visiting with our special guest contributor Mike, and perhaps help him eat more of New York.  We will try to keep up with the website and give a daily round up of what we’ve done.  Today we are traveling to Williamsport, PA (home of the Little League World Series, about a 3 hour drive) to stay over night at our dad’s home, then traveling in the early morning to New Jersey (another 3 hours) where our hotel is.  Enjoy the following entries and we’ll be back to writing about movies, music and video games (something is coming on that, I promise).

RIP Bernie Mac

•August 9, 2008 • No Comments

I’ve never been a huge fan of Bernie Mac, but he was always enjoyable in the roles he did.  If you think about it, he’s been in like 45,000 movies since 2000.  But what also saddens me deeply (albiet pathetic) is that there might not be an Ocean’s 14.  He died due to complications of pneumonia.

Bernie’s Movies Since 2000:

Transformers Oceans 11,12,13 Guess Who Mr. 3000 Bad Santa Charlie’s Angels : Full Throttle Head of State Pride Also in pre-200: How to be A Player, Don’t Be a Menace, Friday, Mo Money

Donnie B is Bored: Eels - Beautiful Freak (1996)

•August 9, 2008 • 1 Comment

OK, it is time to write about music.  Now I know everyone (yes all 5 of you) just recently enjoyed reading about The Breakfast Club.  And it created a wonderful discussion on what classifies as 80’s and whether or not that movie was a classic or even John Hughes finest.  However that is all dead now.  This is Donnie B is Bored : Music style.

The whole reason I started Donnie B is bored was to listen to more music.  Its funny because that’s the last thing I really have done.  I’ve become engrossed in watching the movies and have turned into some sort of a sad excuse for a “fan of movies“.  But what has turned me off about the music selections has been just that, the selections.  Blur was pretty disappointing, Parliament felt way out of place, and Raekwon was definitely not for ME (again, nothing against Raekwon I just think I missed out on that generation of rap).

This entry is focused completely on me listening to the Eels debut album from 1996, Beautiful Freak.  It’s a relatively quick listen, clocking in at about 43 minutes.  I was excited to listen to the Eels, they were a band I have heard of.  I always assumed they had a more ‘coffee’ house fan club, so there not exactly a band that I was expecting to hear on Rick Dees Weekly top 40 anytime soon (unless the apocalypse occurs).  Anyways, here’s what I thought of the album, and Eels in general.

Dragonball Z anyone?

•August 6, 2008 • 1 Comment

No..nothing really having to do with Dragon Ball Z..other than the fact Donnie and I have started watching all the episodes of the show.  Thats right.  We have approximetly that much time on our hands.   Oh, and i cant wait to see the movie…it should be a fine piece of cinema.  How could you go wrong turning a show where people shoot energy out of their hands and turn into huge monkeys  into a live action movie?

Gear Pr0n: Blackheart Handsome Devil 15W Guitar Amp Head

•August 6, 2008 • No Comments

You smell that?  Its the smell of a cheap tube amp that sounds awesome….its in the air.  And around the end of this month, that smell will come to fruition as the Blackheart Handsome Devil 15W Amp Head.  Now, I am what you would call a guitar amp fanatic.  I love amps.  Im more of a freak about amps than guitars.  I look at amps at being more of the focal point at how a guitarist gets his sound.  However, i believe i already shared my love of amps in my first post on the Orange Tiny Terror….and this amp is in the same vein.

Mike Eats New York, Week 94: How I Escaped from Jail in NYC, plus Food Talk!

•August 6, 2008 • 2 Comments

Ok it was an early night tonight and I just got out of the Jacuzzi so I’m feeling good. Lets go for another post!

To make my deal of free lunch/dinner even sweeter, I happened to be in NY for Restaurant Week! Restaurant Week is an annual event in which all these participating restaurants that I would not normally be able to afford offer prix fixe lunch and dinner deals. So, for $24.07 you get to have a lunch consisting of an appetizer, an entrée, and a dessert. The menu is limited and the portions are small but its still a cool lunch. We went to four participating places for lunch and they were all pretty cool. The first one we went to was the Robert DeNiro owned Tribeca Grill (note the “all-star roster of investorsâ€). The meal was one of my least favorites but it was still cool having Bobby himself come over to our table and tell us a story about how he and Joe Pesci once… alright that didn’t happen. He probably has been inside the place once. The place is nice looking and the walls are covered in odd random paintings all done by the same artist. The artist… Robert DeNiro. No really, they are. I took a close look at them (Ok I literally just found this. So maybe they were his dad’s paintings. Damn. That totally ruins the image I had of the actor painting all serious with that classic look on his face and a cigarette hanging out of his mouth. So much for that story).

Donnie B is Bored: The Breakfast Club (1985)

•August 6, 2008 • 21 Comments

I am one of those few people of my generation (not sure which one I am in actually) that have not completely fallen for that 1980’s nostalgia and hasn’t seen every movie that involved Molly Ringwald or Andrew McCarthy.  So I decided that now I can join in with Michael Ian Black and Hal Sparks the next time VH1 replays “I Love the 80’s”, and start reminiscing.

For those of you left in the dark, The Breakfast Club was movie that came out in 1985 that basically defined what it was like being a teenage kid of the 1980’s.  It was directed by John Hughes who basically directed anything good in the 80’s and even 90’s.  It was the story of (’titles’ taken directly from the movie), a Princess, a Criminal, a Brain, an Athlete and a Basket case.

The idea of the movie is to point out that we as a society (or more importantly a high school community) are bigger then our stereotypes.  For example: Just because I’m a “Jock” doesn’t mean I don’t care about the not cool kids and don’t support Green Peace or read Nietzsche in my free time.  In the end they all are “greater” for the experience they shared together, which was 9 hours on a Saturday morning.

Now that we have all that “plot” information out of the way, here’s what I was thinking / have thought since watching the movie.

Mike Eats New York, Week 2/3: Hippies, A-Rod’s perfect body and James Gandolfini’s dog.

•August 4, 2008 • 6 Comments

First of all, my deepest apologies for the lack of updates. I actually had something small written up a week ago, before I went back to Buffalo for the weekend, but hated it (seriously you’re better off without it). I planned on working on it some more at the airport while I waited, but then my flight got pushed back 5 hours (hey lots of time to write!). Then my flight got canceled. So I spent the night figuring out how I was going to get back to work in the morning. In NY. From Buffalo.

I ended up renting a car and driving with my cousin who lives in NYC (she’s a film school grad working in NYC as an administrative assistant at a hedge fund… more on really cool, related experiences later. And yes of course I have family here too). I could have waited for a flight the next day but Jet Blue had canceled 5 flights to NYC that night and I didn’t want to deal with the headache at the airport the next morning. It’s a nice, easy drive so I think it’s a no brainer (seriously is there any system, besides maybe health care, that is more screwed up than flying our friendly skies? From the FAA still using inefficient, 60 year old radar rather than GPS, airlines overbooking flights and scheduling more flights than airports can comfortably handle, and airports themselves just being a mess. Delays keep getting worse and worse. Something’s got to give soon right?) Oh and I showed up to work at 4pm on Monday (just in time for dinner!)
