Starting October 1, 2008, Comcast will put a cap on Internet usage. Saying that 250 GB cap is 100 times more than the average usage. According to Comcast, that’s the equivalent of downloading 62, 500 songs or 125 standard definition movies per month in order for anyone to exceed the cap.
That just blows my mind to have a cap on Internet usage. The article goes on further to speculate on what else is coming down the line like broadband metering where consumers are charged for speed and usage.
Is this a chilling effect or what? What’s also interesting is that Comcast was recently found by the FCC to be “improperly” inhibiting the usage of many Internet users who were using BitTorrent, a file sharing program. Do you see it? I see it and I don’t much like it.

I think it is all about what you are used to. In the UK what you pay for your broadband package varies depending on how much downloading you do. You select how much you pay by how much you are likely to download. Although there is a lot of competition for broadband customers with tons of different providers so if you don’t download much, which I would guess is not uncommon, it is not very expensive to have broadband.
