… tmnet streamyx ADSL service will be available to me in Nilai! smiley

If you’ve been following my struggle to get decent Internet service in Nilai… I made a complaint to MCMC via the CFM forum and then got a reply from them (click here) that they will look into it…

And yesterday I got a e-mail reply:
Dear Sir/Madam,

With regards to your query of which we received from the Communications and Mutimedia Consumer Forum of Malaysia (MCMC) on January 14 2004.

Please be informed that after consulting with the respective department your connection based on the number 06 799 xxxx is scheduled for streamyx service on February 28 2004. According to the preliminary schedule the date of availability is based on the completion of upgrading the streamyx infrastructure and are still subject to diversion works which may delay the projected completion date.

Hope this may revert to your matter satisfactorily. Should you require any further assistance, please feel free to reach us at 1300-88-9515 or e-mail us at streamyx@tm.net.my. You can also visit our website at http://isp.tm.net.my/streamyx for more details on the product. Thank you.

Regards,

Yay! smiley
I finally can get the service this year… it only took me one year of complaining and bitching at them… ^_^

… was made possible after I modified a piece of Perl code to use it with the router as the router did not support SNMP… my MRTG page can be found here.

For more details you can find it here as I’ve help Jez make it work with his other MRTG implementations…

If you need specific help on how I did it (and can’t figure out Jez’s script coz his a tad complicated because it includes other sub functions to do other graphings), e-mail me and I’ll post up a HOWTO here later… just too lazy to do it now smiley

… to replace the Taiwan-made one that got screwed sometime ago… I got myself the Alcatel (now the whole DSL product line belongs to Thomson) SpeedTouch 510 ADSL router with 4 10Mbps port smiley

It’s a ADSL modem/terminal adapter and a router in one… and it even comes with firewall capabilities (though the firewall settings can’t be configured over Web interface, only in telnet)… I got it at a dirt cheap price… if you’re interested to get yourself a superb modem/router/hub combo, contact me and I’ll get you a good deal, shouldn’t really disclose the price here… lotsa dealers will kill me! smiley

Anyway, I’ve even setup a MRTG monitoring on the router (the router itself doesn’t support SNMP, but I’ve got a Perl script workaround for that - contact me if you want it too) which you can see it here: http://auyongtc.homelinux.net/

I’ll add more graphing on the PC that I have here at home soon… as soon as I figure out the MIBs for the Windows SNMP support… perhaps after CNY smiley

… with the colour “Cloudless Sky” blue of ICI’s Dulux Pearl Glo… came back to my home sweet home on Friday and saw my dad busy painting away in the living room… damn surprised…

I think this house has gone thru 13 years without a new coat of paint… tee hee, so I was damn enthusiastic about giving my room a paintjob on Saturday since dad will need to get me the blue colour I wanted (it turned out to be along the lines of Manchester City’s home jersey’s blue)… He wanted me to help out on Friday but I was supposed to attend Sarah and her friends’ BBQ party…

Funny thing no one in the family mention to me that they were gonna paint the house… am I still a member of this family or what? Gotta find out…

So Friday night I went to the BBQ party and then for a midnight show with Sarah - watched Paycheck… Gosh, Uma Thurman was too old for the lead actress role and some of the lines in the movie were cheesy… Dunno why she happily said “see ya” when she needed to pick up the envelope she dropped while being chased by a few cars with the drivers armed with guns… can’t figure out why…

Came back late - found my 1998 Bintang high school yearbook and flipped thru it a bit before I slept around 4am… woke up around 10 something and started painting after lunch… finished it well enough before the day was over… damn proud of myself smiley

Alright, now I better go buy my dog (and myself) some dinner as my parents is now happily attending a dinner banquet in Segamat, Johor… I think I’ll take my dog down for a walk too… smiley

… to follow-up on my complaint to CFM (first wrote on it here) on the unavailability of Streamyx in my area in Timbuktu Nilai…

Well.. the lady who called me up, asked for some details as a follow-up to my complaint and see if she can speed up the deployment of pizza boxes in my area so that I can get Streamyx… cool.. finally they’re doing something, after I’ve gone to external forums to complain on the issue… well, it only took a year for them to listen… now we’ll see how long it takes to get it here… sigh…

If she can get me my decent Internet access (I’m currently on 28.8kbps dial-up, a technology of yester-century smiley ) on ADSL anytime this year, I suppose I’ll buy her dinner… hmmm… since she provides the pizza box (the box that allow ADSL signals to pass thru fiber optic networks), I’ll buy her pizza! smiley

This is a good day… now I really wish it rains please!

… and I really feel that this year really lack the atmosphere and the mood of the lunar new year… and I thought last year was bad enough… sigh…

I should be going back to civilization tomorrow after my classes and then perhaps skip the Monday and Tuesday classes since most of them chinese students in my class not gonna attend anyway… got a bbq to attend tomorrow night - something that Sarah and her friends planned…

There’s still one shirt I wanted to get for Chinese New Year… a dark red one from U2… perhaps I’ll go on Monday and see if it’s still available… I don’t normally buy much apparels except when it comes to CNY…

I think this time around, I’m gonna go get some firecrackers to make up for the lack of atmosphere - gonna find firecrackers that’s over 6ft long… hehe, gonna set it up after the Pai Thee Kong ceremony on the 8th day of the lunar new year… smiley

I suppose my whole family will be going back to my mom’s hometown in Ipoh, Perak come the 3rd day as my dad is free to travel this year… smiley
If he’s in a good mood, perhaps I’ll even get to go to Penang!

My Life Stories14 Jan 2004 1:57 pm

… last night after dinner. Was there with my housemate ET, Cheok Yeen and my gf Sarah… we had dinner at the Restoran Kong Sai in Paramount Garden, PJ since it was still raining around 7.45pm…

Too bad none of us brought any camera, mine’s (or rather my sister’s) at my KL residence, ET and Sarah forgot to bring theirs… but we had the usual great stuff at Kong Sai for dinner - chicken, bean sprouts, the fatty pork with yam dish, and topped it off with the pepper pork belly soup smiley Yum!

Unfortunately, there’s not much Chinese New Year mood around Petaling Street (aka China Town)… sad ler, not much CNY decorations and the likes… just the typical counterfeit products sellers… thought it would be more colourful and happening since CNY is drawing near (next Wed!)…

I ended up buying 2 t-shirts and was lazy to go around to the other side and queue up to buy the Kiew Brothers’ dried meat…

But it was a fun evening out with the entire group - and Sarah enjoyed the shopping fun with lotsa bargaining… smiley

Just before 11pm, we ended up in A&W outlet in Subang Jaya for some root beers before going back to Nilai again… it was a fun-filled 6 hours out of the boring town of Nilai… or at least that’s what ET said, just before reaching home…

I’m still a tad dissapointed at the lack of atmosphere in Petaling Street just a week before CNY smiley

My Life Stories13 Jan 2004 11:01 am

… and it’s rather boring, guess that explains the hiatus since classes started over a week ago…

Currently stuck in the computer lab now learning assembly language (yawn!)… the course lecturer’s from India and I hear a lot of typical heavy Indian accent… especially when he pronounces ‘n’ as yen, ‘m’ as ‘yam’ and zero as gero (okay, this one’s quite common with us chinese too… lol smiley )

My housemate, Kheng just moved out before the start of the semester as he’s planning to do his final year in New Zealand.. poor guy, gonna be in a town called Wanganui… I thought Auckland would be bad enough… surely lotsa sheeps and cows for him to hang out with.. smiley

CheeV’s supposed to move in since Kheng moved out, but he’s yet to get the verdict on his appeal for the course that he failed… I helped him to write the appeal letter the other day and really hope he can make it thru for this semester, or else he may be asked to leave the BCN programme… if that happens, then I’ll lose a buddy to hang out with here in Timbuktu Nilai… smiley

Some of you already know that I’ve started seeing someone…. her name’s Sarah and she’s a blogger as well (her blog’s here and photoblog’s here)… we started dating just before my new semester started… kinda sucks to be back to Nilai while she’s in Subang…

Though it’s not far, but it’s not gonna be feasible travelling up and down frequently to see her… so I only get to see her on weekends anyway… drat! smiley

Well, at the very least, it’s kinda a good start to a leap year… smiley
Shall not abandon this blog so often anymore… I promise smiley

… and I’ll be back to Timbuktu… Nilai tomorrow… sigh… Gosh, what happened to my 2 months break? Gone just like that…

Early this morning, managed to drag Sarah out of bed to join me for dim sum breakfast at Taman Megah, PJ… it was her first time there, hehe, and she could now understand why I say that place’s the best and the cheapest dim sum place in PJ… sorry ya, forgot to bring my digital camera to snap you the various mouth-watering dishes.

We went to IKEA for a casual walk since it was still early. It was my first time there at their new location in Mutiara Damansara. It was huge, and coupled with the newly opened Ikano Power shopping mall, there’s more places to shop at…

I was really tempted to get the magnetic/whiteboard that came with a clock and some slots for keys/letters/etc that cost RM 75 for my room in Nilai… but I think I’ll have to come back for that sometime later - perhaps after Chinese New Year…

I just realised that my phone line in Nilai would probably have been suspended by Telekom due to non-payment of bills and I’ll have to get it settled on Monday before I can even hope of getting online from my room smiley

Gone will be my ADSL Internet access I get here at my home sweet home - back to the 28.8kbps dial-up Internet access of yestercentury… sigh… I just filed my complaint on the lack of broadband Internet access in my area with CFM

… before I leave KL and go back to DullsvilleTimbuktu err.. Nilai… for a new semester…

Sorry for the lack of updates, but was rather busy lately. True to my words, I spent New Year’s Eve at home… smiley

Gotta go, need to send my car to my regular workshop in Cheras to get it serviced and some stuff fixed, or else Sarah will keep on having a hard time getting in and out of my car due to that stupid car lock… smiley
