Sigh, Schumi’s one point away from championship
by auyongtc
It was a great race late last night at 2am… by far the most action-packed race of the year… however, the weather played to the hands of Bridgestone as their wets were definitely better than the Michelin’s, thus allowing Schumi to win the US GP and Kimi Raikkonen came in 2nd…
Montoya is now out of the title chase as he finished lowly 6th after facing all sorts of problems - from fuel nozzle failure to drive-thru penalty and tyre selection…
Oh yeah, Sauber’s Frentzen was 3rd, while Renault’s Trulli was 4th, followed by Heidfeld, Montoya, Fisichella and Justin Wilson…
So now the battle for the championship is only between Kimi Raikkonen and Michael Schumacher… the thing is that Kimi MUST win the Japan GP in Suzuka in 2 weeks time AND Schumi failing to score a point in order to win the championship… as for Schumi, he just need a point…
Arghh!

Where the ^#$% is the ANY key?
by auyongtc
In case you’re wondering where can you find the “ANY” key when instructed by a system message or a tech support personnel… don’t worry!
The nice folks at Compaq (now part of HP) have it on their FAQ:
Compaq FAQ: Where do I find the “Any” key on my keyboard? (FAQ2859)

Late nights are good for some Linux work…
by auyongtc
Yeap.. especially when you’re half asleep and you’ll make mistakes that will never happen during daytime…
So late last night (or early this morning, if that’s what you like you call it) I was trying to install RT (Request Tracker) and RTFM (RT FAQ Manager, not Read The Fucking Manual, you moron!) together with Paul, remotely onto our server in US…
We started the installation at 2.40am and ran into a few hiccups… first we didn’t have any mod_perl or FastCGI for our Apache web server… it was supposed to work on plain vanilla CGI anyway, but there’s no way to figure that out since the manual didn’t mention anything and the RT mailing list archive came up nothing related to our problems… decided to install the module, and then due to some misconfiguration on the httpd.conf file, we still couldn’t get it to work until finally, it worked at around 4.40am!
Yeap, a whole 2 hours to tinker and get it running… gosh, during that period I think we restarted apache over 30 times! And then we both decided it was enough and went to catch some sleep…
And this morning at 11am I was dragged out of bed by my dad, just because he wanted a letter printed… He was up last night as long as I did, why didn’t he bother to ask for the letter printed back then? Arggh! Now I can’t sleep!
It should be outlawed to drag someone out of the bed so early when one slept at 5am!

What’s the name of this song?
by auyongtc
Damn! Got this song all over my head the whole night last night and can’t figure out the song title nor the artist… help me out will ya?
Part of the song goes something like this:
It’s only tears we cry, when we know we have to say goodbye…
If you ever gonna leave me, better leave me tonight…
It’s a song of the mid-90s I think… if you know the title and artist, please let me know over the comment section below. Thanks!

E-mail Spam Protection for POP mail accounts/clients
by auyongtc
The solution I’m about to suggest will cost you nothing - since SpamAssasin is a open-source mail filter for spam.
In my situation, I’m very dependent on using POP mail accounts as I do archive my mails and I’ve always been a user of MS Outlook. Sometime ago, when I was facing a scary amount of spam coming in thru my mailboxes (yeah I have lotsa mail accounts, separated by its use like work, personal, support, etc), I decided to look for a good spam protection filter for Outlook.
Based on Yeh Ern’s recommendation, I tried out Cloudmark’s SpamNet. It’s a very good solution to my luncheon meat problem but alas, they started charging for it not too long ago, then my copy of SpamNet had expired. I ain’t gonna pay a monthly fee to continue using it - hey! I was contributing back to the SpamNet’s community by flagging spam mails that didn’t get filtered!
I then looked into a few commercial spam filter products but they didn’t work as well as SpamNet, unfortunately.
During this time, all the while the mail accounts on my server (that runs on Linux with CPanel - that hosts this site as well) is protected at the server side with SpamAssasin. So I wasn’t really having spam control problems with these mail accounts. The one that I was frustrated about is from my maxisnet account.
Having banked on the relatively good experience and success in combating spam with SpamAssasin, I looked with high hopes of a filter that works with Outlook. But unfortunately there was none.
However, I found out that there’s a POP server proxy that acts as the middleman that collects the mail from the mail server, filters it with SpamAssasin and then funnels it back to the mail client. And it blardy works with Windows and Outlook! Yay!
What is needed is only:
- ActivePerl - to add support for Perl scripting on Windows platform
- SpamAssasin - the open-source mail filter
- POP3Proxy - the proxy server that uses SpamAssasin and runs on Perl
Installation details can be found on the POP3Proxy website but bear in mind, this is not for the faint-hearted or technologically-challenged. Should you need help in setting it up, don’t hesitate to e-mail me
Wishing you a spam-free mailbox… after all, luncheon meats should only belong to lunchboxes and not mailboxes

Canny Ong’s murder trial - my thoughts
by auyongtc
Well, I’ve been following the murder trial lately and just wanted to have my comment heard…
As before (my initial post about Canny Ong started here: Murder of Canny Ong…), I’m still deeply intrigued by the response of the 2 plainclothes policemen who questioned the accused murder suspect, Ahmad Najib Aris and Canny Ong in Kelana Jaya - long before the murder and rape took place.
Read the news yesterday about the policemen’s testimony to court for the murder trial - can see here at Bernama
Still can’t understand… why ON EARTH they didn’t pursue further or report the incident to the police station/command centre when:
- the policemen took both Ahmad Najib and Canny’s IC for verification
- they noticed Canny was giving hand signal of some sorts
- Ahmad Najib refused to get out of the car when instructed by the policemen
- A sudden change of reaction by Ahmad, where he wound up the window, locked the door, started the engine and sped off
- Leaving the scene without first taking back the ICs from the policemen
- Policemen fired 2 shots at the fleeing car (in which a tyre got punctured)
- Policemen gave chase to the fleeing car
Tell me, HOW COME IT DIDN’T WARRANT REPORTING THE INCIDENT BACK TO STATION/COMMAND CENTRE RIGHT AWAY WHEN 2 SHOTS WERE FIRED? HAVE THEY NO NEED TO REPORT THE USE OF FIREARMS DURING PATROL?
How can the policemen not take down the car number details during their patrol - since they were investigating the presence of the car in the first place! How come there’s no swift action to help the girl?
Still irks me plenty to know that the rape and murder of Canny Ong could’ve been prevented!
So what if our police force is one of the best in solving crimes when they did little to PREVENT CRIMES in the FIRST PLACE?
What do you think of this? Would like to hear your opinion… pen them in the comment section below…

Boring Italian F1 Grand Prix
by auyongtc
Lack of overtaking moves made this year’s Italian GP at the Monza circuit a boring one. The results as follows:
1. Schumi
2. Monty
3. Rubeno
4. Kimi
5. Gene
And the World Championship standing:
1. Schumi - 82
2. Monty - 79
3. Kimi - 75
Looks like the championship this season will only be decided at the last race in Suzuka, Japan
