Reuters takes stake in Austin blogging firm

An Austin-based company that syndicates blogs has partnered with one of the world's largest news wires.

Pluck Corp., which provides web content and social networking services, has signed a deal with Reuters Group plc (NASDAQ: RTRSY). Under the agreement, Reuters will use Pluck's blog syndication technology to send third-party blog content as part of its news service.

As part of the alliance, Reuters has invested about $7 million in the Austin company.

Chris Ahearn, media president at Reuters, says the move is part of his company's strategy to embrace new digital technology and media platforms.

"With Pluck, we will help our worldwide media partners offer their readers smart and fast access to the best in the blogosphere," he says.

Pluck says it syndicates more than 2,800 blogs to outlets such as the Washington Post, Hearst Corp. and Gannett News. Reuters delivers news, financial information, photos and video to more than 1 billion people a day.

"This alliance with Reuters will deliver the most extensive network of blog content through the world's largest international news and financial information source," says Dave Panos, Pluck co-founder and CEO.
