A Peek Into My Scrappy World

Christmas Miracle December 4, 2008

Morning everyone!  I have to start off this post by sharing the Christmas miracle that happened at our house last night.  You will never believe it!  Look!

5_8_08-232

You might not recognize the phenomenon you are looking at.  That is my son.  Peter.  Off the computer.  Actually hanging an ornament on the tree.  A true miracle, indeed.

Never mind that I had to actually bribe him to do it.  I’m thinking that in years to come, when I’m old and my memory is shot even worse than it is now, I’ll truly believe he did this of his own accord.  I can just scrap this photo and think back blissfully to this time….and totally ignore these other photos I got from Mr. Attitude right after that first one.

Sigh……..boys……….teenagers………….teenage boys…………’nuff said.

I also have a couple of scrappy projects to share this morning.  You guessed it….more goodies from the December Paper-Playground kit.  This first project is super simple, quick and easy.  I wanted to come up with a pretty, yet time-saving idea to brighten up the holidays.

These gift tags were a snap to make.  If anyone is interested in the directions, I have a tutorial up in the Paper-Playground classroom here.

I also have one more card to share.

This card was another quick and easy project.  I simply folded one of the Little Yellow Bicycle photo mats in half for the base to this cute card.  I also added a touch of ink to the holly leaves of the Kaisercraft wooden flourish.  Viola!

Have a great day everyone!

Peaceful December 3, 2008

Ahhh……..it is so nice and quiet and peaceful in my house right now! I got to sleep in, the kiddos are still sleeping in fact, I’ve been able to drink my coffee slowly, we don’t have anywhere we have to go today. Pure bliss! Wish everyday could be like this.

Since it’s been so quiet this morning, I was able to download a few photos from my camera onto my computer. I got some wonderful photos of Nik decorating the Christmas tree the other day. We still haven’t gotten very far along on that project. Think I’ll put that on my to-do list for today.

5_8_08-226

5_8_08-201

And where was Peter this whole time, you may ask?

5_8_08-229

Where else but sitting at the computer. Figures. He said he is sorry, Mom, but decorating the tree is just BORING! Sigh…. teenagers.

But even without his help, we are slowly turning the house into a winter wonderland. Look at this cute pair keeping me company by the computer. Do you guys have some of these at your house, too?

5_8_08-230

Sock snowmen! both made by Nik at school. Different years, different interpretations of the same basic idea. There’s no way I could NOT smile looking at this. They make quite the couple, don’t they?

And now it’s time to share my next project using the December kit from Paper-Playground.

These are various photos of Nik and her presents last Christmas. Love how this turned out with the mixture of patterned papers, die-cut edges and big ribbon. And I just adore those glittered snowflakes.

I’ll be back tomorrow with more projects.

Have a great day!

Keep it Coming December 2, 2008

Hi everyone!  I’ve been out running errands all morning.  Had to go to the allergist for environmental testing first thing this morning.  Nik had it done last week, and the poor little thing is allergic to everything and needs to start allergy shots.  She’s worried about all those injections, so I told her I would get tested myself and take the shots with her.  We’re going to be shot buddies.  I’ve needed to do this myself for years and have been putting it off, so this was an easy decision.  It was just the push I needed. So now we are both tested and ready to get started.  And although it’s not pleasant, it’s much nicer to go through it all with someone. Then we hit a few stores, and I must say I’m surprised that it was not a complete mad house out there.  I did hear some angry honking in the parking lots, though, so I know we must be near the holidays!

And now that we’re settled back at home, I’m excited to share more of my latest scrappy projects.  First of all, my holiday project tutorial has been posted in the classroom at Webster’s Pages community blog site, inspireME.  Here’s a small peek.

You can find the full project and all the instructions here.

And I also have another project to show that I made with my December kit from Paper-Playground.

I am diggin’ my little outfit I had on!  Check out those groovy sunglasses.  I don’t remember a single detail of this trip to the snow, but I love how I looked!  And how young and hip my dad looked, too.

This page really came together quickly and easily.  I just layered the MM flocked rouge Paperie paper over the ivory cardstock and trimmed the side with a thin strip of dark green Christmas Magic paper.  I added a chunk of the die-cut snowflakes, a wide band of that beautiful checked May Arts ribbon with a big bow, and a few Kaiser pearls.  A simple date title and one journaling strip are the finishing touches.  Now if I could only remember something from this trip!

Oh well.

The December Kit is Up! December 1, 2008

Yeah!  December first!  I just love the first of the month!  I have so many happy, scrappy things to share.  The new kit from Paper-Playground is up on the website, and that means I can finally show you all some of the things I’ve been working on.  And I have some other scrappy news to share, too.  Lots of news! Too much news, probably……I’ll have to break it up into smaller, digestible bits, I think.  Otherwise you all will be nodding off in your seats.  So are you all ready?

First of all, I have to share this bit of news here.  Stacey Michaud asked me to do a page for her fabulous journaling article in ScrapStreet ezine.  Stacey’s article this month features tips on focusing on the who/what/where/why/how of journaling.  The page I created is near and dear to my heart, and is something I had been needing to do for quite some time.  And, I used the beautiful November kit from Paper-Playground, too! ;)  If you all haven’t checked out ScrapStreet yet, you will be amazed, I promise!

And now….are you all ready to see the full December kit?  And maybe some projects, too?

So pretty, isn’t it?  Be sure to check out the Paper-Playground website for the full list of kit contents.  Take a peek at the smoking gallery, too, while you are there.  And be sure to get your kit quickly before they fly out the door.

Here are just a couple of the things I’ve done with this month’s kit.

Thanks for hanging in there for so long!  I’ve got lots of other fun things to share, including more kit projects and some fun news from inspireME, but I’ll let that wait until next time.

Hope you have a wonderful day!

Being Sneaky November 30, 2008

Hi everyone!  It has turned gray and rainy and cold this weekend.  Perfect weather for cuddling up next to the fire.  And perfect weather for getting into the Christmas spirit.  I went and got my tree yesterday and am now in the process of getting all the lights up.  I will have that finished by this evening so that the kiddos can start decorating.  I’m excited to see all my favorite ornaments and decorations come out.  So many memories with each one.  Nik loves it as much as I do, but I have to admit that I have a hard time getting Peter into it all anymore.  Oh, he likes to look at it, but he’s not much into the “work”.  Typical teenage boy!  So what about you all?  Have you started putting up your trees yet?

I am also really excited that tomorrow is the 1st, which means the full reveal of the December Paper-Playground kit will be up on the website.  Always love the first of the month, and I get so jazzed up to share with you all these beautiful kits.  I have been playing with this kit again this weekend, and have used up just about every piece in it already.  So, I will have lots of scrappy projects to show starting tomorrow.  But in the mean time, how about a few more sneak peeks?

Can’t wait to show you the rest!  Hope you’ll stop by tomorrow and check out the full reveal!

See you then!

Black Friday November 28, 2008

Happy Friday everyone!  I’m sure quite a few of you are out braving the sales and masses at the mall today.  I decided to stay as far away from the stores as possible.  I much prefer the quietness of my house and the peace.  It is such a beautiful day here.  Weather is in the 60’s.  Hardly feels like the end of November.  But since it truly is the day after Thanksgiving, it is definitely time to be thinking about Christmas.  So, I am busy today taking down all my turkey decorations.  I have boxes and boxes of Christmas decorations to start hauling up from the basement, too.  But with weather like we’re having today, it’s honestly a bit hard to get in the mood!

But before I try to get back at it, I have a couple more projects to share using my November kit from Paper-Playground.   The first is a card I made from the mini place cards I used on my Thanksgiving table.  If you all didn’t get a chance to see them, I have a tutorial for the table settings here.

place-card-birthday-card

Now that Thanksgiving is over, why not recycle those place settings into another use?  And this was SO easy to do.  Just lift off the letter stickers from your place card and center your piece onto a 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″ card base.  I added a simple stamped greeting, and the card is done.  How easy is that?

And my last project is pictures from my birthday this past weekend.

This gorgeous flocked Paperie paper from Making Memories is my favorite piece from this kit.  Love it, love it!  I still have one more page idea up my sleeves with this November kit and my new 2008 Thanksgiving decoration.  I hope to have that to show you all soon.

Have a great day everyone!

Just a Few Scrappy Shares November 26, 2008

It is so peaceful and quiet at my house right now. Perfect for reflecting on all my blessings and everything I have to be grateful for. I am so thankful for my family and my wonderful friends, and for my house that keeps us safe and sound. I am also extremely grateful for the many fabulous people I have met through this hobby of scrapbooking. I had no idea the sense of community I would feel when I started this journey years ago. So to all of you, I wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with warmth, loved ones, good food, and football winnings!

And before I go, I have just a few scrappy items to share with you all. I am really excited to say that the sneak of my holiday tutorial is now up on the inspireME blog. You can check it out here. The supply list and full project should be posted on Friday. Yippee!

I also have another page to share that I created with the November kit from Paper-Playground. This is one I made at the beach this weekend of my sweet daughter making me breakfast for my birthday.

She is such a sweetheart!

And lastly, I believe I promised to post a few sneak peeks at the December kit that will be released in just a few days.

Cardalicious #7 November 25, 2008

Happy Tuesday everyone!  So, are you all engrossed in Thanksgiving preparations this week?  There’s something about Thanksgiving that makes me start panicking about how few days are left until Christmas.  I have gotten next to nothing done yet.  Yikes!  I did slip out yesterday afternoon for a little shopping.  It is getting really crowded in the shopping centers already.  I can’t even imagine what it’s going to be like on Friday.  Think I’ll stay home and put up my Christmas decorations instead. ;)

The decorations are my absolute favorite part of Christmas.  I love the lights and the glitter and the pure magic of Christmas.  I love the beautifully wrapped presents and all the wonderful foods around at the holidays, too.  Every year, I try to put together a small goody for some of my closest neighbors.  Usually it is some cookies or homemade treats or a nice bottle of wine and a cute little gift tag.  So when Janelle challenged us to make a mini card for this week’s Cardalicious challenge, I decided to design my gift tag for this year.

christmas-gift-tag

This is my first project using the upcoming December kit from Paper-Playground.  The paper is Christmas Magic by Little Yellow Bicycle and the chipboard snowflake is from Bazzill.  The card measures approximately 3.5″ x 3.5″ and has a rounded front flap that I created by tracing a plate and cutting around the curve.  I created the scalloped edge with my 1/2″ circle punch from StampinUp!  The snowflake is dressed up with a coat of Liquid Pearls that came in the November kit.  I just love the iridescent shimmer it has in real life.  I finished the gift card with a simple knot of May Arts ribbon and added a glittered flower and berries from the floral department at Michael’s.

I’ll share some more peeks of my December kit projects tomorrow.  And in the mean time, I have been tagged again by my scrappy friends, Annette and Ashley.  I’ll try to keep it brief this time, as last time I blathered on and on.  The game is to tell everyone 7 random facts about yourself.  So here goes.

1.  My favorite tv show ever is Survivor.
2.  As a general rule, I do not like Christmas carols.  Oh, I can stand a few of them….but hours of non-stop carols is like dragging your fingernails across a blackboard to me.
3.  I’m not much of a morning person.  I actually feel kinda sick early in the morning.
4.  I do a lot of pet sitting as a side job.
5.  My all-time favorite color is brown.  To me it is warm and deep and rich….and chocolaty.
6.  I love watching Food Network, but I cannot cook like that.
7.  I do not like my car…….wish I wasn’t driving around a gas-guzzling mini-van.

Thanks girls, for tagging me, and thanks to everyone else for sticking with me this long!  Since I’ve tagged people before, I think I’ll let everyone off the hook for today! ;)

Have a great day!

Back to Business November 24, 2008

Hi everyone! Happy Monday! I am back from the beach. Had a wonderful time. It was pretty darn cold there, so Friday and Saturday I didn’t even see the ocean. Didn’t want to be outside longer than absolutely necessary. But yesterday warmed up enough that we were all able to bundle up and spend about an hour on the beach. There is just something so soothing about being near the water. Makes the long drive worth every minute.

We spent quite a bit of time scrapping. I got a fair amount done, which is good for me because usually I’m too busy talking and eating at a crop to get much done. Still have to unpack my crop bags and get some photos taken before I can share the pages I made. Can’t wait to show you all what I came up with for the upcoming December kit from Paper-Playground! I think you all are going to love this kit.

I do have a few photos I can share this morning from my birthday celebration Saturday night. The girls surprised me with some princess attire and a yummy chocolate cake. Aren’t girl friends the best?? Of course I was scrapping in my pj’s, so you’ll have to forgive me.

Thank you guys, for making my birthday one I’ll never forget. I also want to send a big thank you to my scrappy friends, Annette and Bonnie for giving me this wonderful blog award!

Annette has been posting some really adorable Christmas projects on her blog lately. I love all the vintage touches she adds to her work.

Bonnie is self-proclaimed new to scrapping and her enthusiasm is absolutely infectious.  She has been on a roll with card-making and I am really impressed with the different techniques she is trying.  Hope you’ll take a moment to go check them out and say hello.

And now it’s my turn to pass this award on to 5 other bloggers. So hard to choose just five, but I am going to pass this along to Sherry, Staci, Louisa, Lisa, and Stacey! I am a big fan, ladies!

I’ll be back soon with more photos. Have a great day everyone!

Off To The Beach! November 21, 2008

I must admit that I’m pretty excited this morning. In just a couple of hours, I will be on the road to the beach with the Paper-Playground gang. Four of us girls hanging out, scrapping in our pj’s, walking on the beach, and generally making merry. I could not think of a more wonderful birthday present. I’ve got my kits all packed, and now all I have to do is wait. I am SO in love with our upcoming December kit and hope to make a ton of projects this weekend to share with you when I get back. In the mean time, here’s a little peek to whet your appetites.

december-08-embellie-detail

SO gorgeous! This kit has flocking, and pearls, and swirls, and die-cuts to-die-for! Can’t wait to get started.

I’m so thankful for the chance to get away and play and for these wonderful friends of mine. Before I go, I will share a few photos of us PP gals at the beach last spring. It was so cold that trip that we never stepped foot onto the sand. I’m hoping this time we’ll at least get in one small walk. But I don’t know…..it’s getting awfully cold here.
