Canada's Greatest Recording Artists(MALE)
By an Amazon.com customer
Gord's Gold Gord's Gold by Gordon Lightfoot
Buy used from: $3.25
Most of Gord's hit singles and album material were his own compositions. But I happen to believe his recording of Kristofferson's ME AND BOBBIE McGEE is the best version of that country/pop classic.
Collection Collection by Burton Cummings
Buy used from: $11.95
Formerly lead singer of the Canadian group Guess Who. I prefer his solo work actually. Okay, I'll relent and recommend my favorite song of his, HEAVENLY BLUE.
Greatest Hits Greatest Hits by Neil Young

Comes a Time Comes a Time by Neil Young

Okay, I cheated and listed my favorite Neil Young album (from what I think was his best period during collaboration with then girlfriend Nicolette Larson, tragically now gone).Early on, Neil was with Buffalo Springfield and later Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.
Lost Herd Lost Herd by Ian Tyson
Buy new: $16.98 / Used from: $6.81
He's Canada's singing cowboy. Formerly of the married folk duo Ian & Sylvia(4 Strong Winds), now divorced but good friends. This CD contains what I believe is the best recording of SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW(once voted the most beloved song of all time).
Blood Sweat & Tears - Greatest Hits Blood Sweat & Tears - Greatest Hits by Sweat & Tears Blood
Buy new: $8.97 / Used from: $3.75
Lead singer David Clayton Thomas.
Essential Leonard Cohen Essential Leonard Cohen by Leonard Cohen
Buy new: $16.97 / Used from: $11.92
More famous as a poet and songwriter than as a recording artist. He wrote BIRD ON A WIRE(his best),SUZANNE, AIN'T NO CURE FOR LOVE. My favorite recording of his is CLOSING TIME on his CD THE FUTURE. His music was prominent in the soundtrack of the Robert Altman lyrical western McCabe and Mrs. Miller, with Warren Beatty and Julie Christie.

Buy used from: $9.99
Anything Anytime Anywhere: Singles 1979-2002 Anything Anytime Anywhere: Singles 1979-2002 by Bruce Cockburn
Buy new: $14.99 / Used from: $11.94
My favorite songs of his: MARY HAD A BABY, A-LA, WONDERING WHERE THE LIONS ARE..and..WAITING FOR A MIRACLE. Bruce is a Christian, a leftie socialist one. He does a lot of valuable work for the Christian Children's Fund.(That's not why I labelled him as 'leftie socialist'.) I'm sure he'd agree anyway.
Kissing Rain Kissing Rain by Roch Voisine
Buy new: $47.99 / Used from: $5.10
Definitely his best album and very pleasing from start to finish, a rarity. He also records in French. Everyone to whom I introduce this CD is impressed.

Egypt-born but Canada-based troubadour of folk, pop and kids music. My favorite adult song is '45 YEARS FROM NOW'. Bananaphone is a cute catchy little ditty.
Ronnie Hawkins - Greatest Hits Ronnie Hawkins - Greatest Hits by Ronnie Hawkins & the Hawks
Buy new: $21.53 / Used from: $8.75
Spent most of his career based in Toronto, but came year in his 20's from Arkansas. Also known as 'Rompin' Ronnie Hawkins, or 'The Hawk'. He's a good friend of Kristofferson and was in the audience for Kris' concert here this year.
Looking Back Looking Back by Ian Thomas
Buy new: $28.99 / Used from: $5.23
He wrote one excellent song in particular, GOOD AGAIN, the best rendition of which is Anne Murray's on her 1996 CD called (oddly enough) Anne Murray. After a 35 year career? It's not her debut album!!!

GLENN GOULD.Canada's renowned classical pianist. Being only a superficial aficionado of classical music, I just selected the CD from the top of Amazon's list, but you'll see that he recorded many of the most famous classical composers.
Essential Gold Essential Gold by Guy Lombardo & His Royal Canadians
Buy new: $11.99 / Used from: $6.99
A popular band leader a couple of generations ago. Famous for his New Year's Eve TV specials and his rendition of AULD LANG SYNE.
Kuschelrock, Vol. 3 { Various Artists } Kuschelrock, Vol. 3 { Various Artists }
Buy new: $31.98 / Used from: $10.93
SEASONS IN THE SUN was pretty much a one-hit-wonder for Terry Jacks, sister of Susan, lead singer of the Poppy Family. The song is often mocked for sentimentality. Easy to do when a slow lingering death hasn't touched you yet, I suppose.
