DREAM-THEMED JURIED EXHIBITION - October 25, 2008

Dreams have long been celebrated as sources of inspiration and analogues for artworks. In dreams we see that the world might be otherwise, that oppressive forces might be overcome, and that our wishes might be fulfilled. But the dreams that have driven the development of the modern world have resulted, to the contrary, in previously unimaginable nightmares. We live in a world where genocide has become commonplace, where the necessary conditions for life on earth are threatened by our own actions, and where there seems to be no limit to our exploitation of one another. CALL FOR VISUALIZATION OF THE WRITTEN WORD - November 13, 2008

"Clamoring to Become Visible" - whether appropriated from popular culture, literary passages, or purposefully written by an individual artist, the utilization of language within the realm of contemporary visual arts presents specific challenges, both aesthetic and conceptual. The ability of the viewer to process the content of the written word is starkly different from the more visceral capacity to absorb the visual nature of art. It is this dichotomy that imbues text-based art with a limitless number of possibilities to reach its viewer on various intellectual and intuitive levels. BAC Gallery invites two-dimensional artists working in photography, painting, drawing and mixed media to apply. No entry fee.

50 STATES, 50 ARTISTS, 50 MEDIUMS - April 15, 2009

Open to all professional artists living or working in the United States. Open to any and all mediums in the art, craft, and design communities. One artist or designer from each state in the USA will represent a different medium, bridging the gap between the traditional fine art world and other arts disciplines, including craft, design, architecture, performance art, etc. I am interested in these intersections and how they translate into everyday life. This show will not only represent the importance of all art disciplines, but will also stress the importance of all working artists regardless of their location. Entry fee.

CALL FOR SHOE-THEMED WRITING/ART - June 1, 2008

Hipsters, artists, musicians, political figures, scientists, mothers. The examples of people and their shoes are endless. Yet still, no matter how fascinating the adventures of their shoes are, it's all worth nothing without the story of the owner. And this is the content of the book I'm creating. So, if you have a pair of shoes that mean something to you, that have a story behind them, I'd like you to take an interesting picture of the shoe (in whatever setting you think is applicable). Then, write a short story about why the shoe is important, or make a poem, or a song... whatever you want. I want the content of the book to be as varied and universal as possible. In your e-mails, you may also leave your name and whatever other information you'd like to be included on your page. If you wish for this info to not be put in the book, that's fine too. I appreciate your help and look forward to seeing some interesting submissions.
