The head of the USPTO today talked about the rise of bad patents (reserving a spot in an airline bathroom, for instance) and suggested ways to fix the problem. He still loves software patents, though.

Fark.com has filed for a trademark application covering the phrase "Not safe for work." Given NSFW's wide usage, enforcement could prove to be very difficult if the mark is even granted.

What would it take to get Sony and the EFF on the same side? The WIPO broadcast treaty. Both groups vigorously object, while a coalition that includes Microsoft, Apple, and Amazon thinks the treaty has merit.
