With all of the Halo 3s, Grand Theft Auto IVs, and Metal Gear Solid 4s lurking about, Infinity Ward's Call of Duty 4 did a good job of carving out its own niche. Infinity Ward has announced that the game has now sold 10 million copies.
Though unable to give specific sales numbers for each platform, studio boss Vince Zampella said that the game sold best on the Xbox 360. CoD 4 also seems to have quite the long tail, as Zampella says it is still selling well, with the map pack having just hit the 1.5 million download mark.
Zampella also explained Infinity Ward's decision to not port the game to the Nintendo Wii, saying that "it just doesn't fit on the Wii. We thought it would be compromised to be on (that) platform." What this means for the upcoming Call of Duty 5—which is being developed by Treyarch, not Infinity Ward, and has been confirmed for the Wii—remains to be seen.
