Welcome to the Schlafly Bottleworks

Erin and I just returned about an hour ago from our quick weekend in St. Louis to celebrate her birthday and attend the Repeal of Prohibition Celebration at the Schlafly Bottleworks. It was a dreary and cold ... did I mention COLD ... Saturday in STL, but the beer was flowing and the company was awesome.

Tanks a lot

We were excited to finally cross paths with the Aleuminati's very own da OD (Jim) - a very cool guy. Although it was bone-chilling cold, and my sample glass was nearly empty, Erin, Jim and I got together for the photo below ... the first gathering of Aleuminati members, perhaps? I don't know ... I do know, however, that it won't be the last!

Erin also spent some time chatting (about the Normans, as I recall) with the obligatory "kilt guy" at the party ... every Schlafly event I've ever attended has also been attended by at least one "kilt guy," interestingly enough. I'm not absolutely sure, but I believe this particular "kilt guy," who is drinking a Schlafly Kolsch in the photo, was one of the gentlemen who carried in the very popular whole hop infusion device for the dry-hopped APA that was nothing short of phenomenal! Want fresher hop flavor? You'll have to chew on a cone right off the vine, me thinks!

Here is the device that attracted a loud and exuberant crowd when it was brought into the main beer tent with no small measure of pomp and circumstance ...

Despite the cold, we had a terrific time at the event and met a lot of very cool people (hello to Dianne and Jim!) Oh yeah ... the beer ... the beer was terrific as well. In fact, I'm gonna save that part of the recap for another blog entirely. I'm still a little road weary, but I wanted to get these photos up as quickly as possible so everyone could share in our weekend.

Prohibition notice!

Once again, a big thanks to Jim (da OD) for the company ... and the whiskey education! We'll definitely have to do it again, soon.

For your viewing enjoyment, here is a video of the pre-Prohibition celebration toast at the Sch.... The video takes a moment to load, so be patient.

The gentleman making the toast is none other than Dan Kopman, co-founder and Chief Operations Officer of the St. Louis Brewing Company (Schlafly). Oh, and the guy in the tan suit ... Tom Schlafly himself!

A truly classy operation. To 75 more years, guys!

Greetings All- It was truely a chilly day, but a fine day to meet new friends. I look forward to the next meeting with (hopefully) more Aluems. In addition to the fine company, I discovered a grand up and coming brew pub from Terra Haute. Brugge's Beer came with a small selection. I especially enjoyed their Brugge's Black.

Yet another link to add - this one is my recap of the beers on hand on Saturday. Da OD is right, Brugge Brasserie is one to watch, for sure. I was partial to a couple of the beers from New Albanian Brewing Company as well ... read all about it!
