Why Women Hate Sarah Palin

I want to be clear. I am not endorsing Palin or McCain, neither am I endorsing Biden and Obama, nor any other candidate or non-candidate. Just want to be clear about that up front.

In recent days, I’ve heard from some women about how much they hate Palin. Not really dislike, but hate. Some of the comments are things like: “This woman is setting women’s rights back years,” or, “We are just one step away from losing women’s suffrage is she gets in.” I must say, there is a delicious irony to the notion that the first woman vice-president would actually turn the clock back on women’s right or that a democratically elected woman might take away a woman’s right to vote.

Instead, I think there may very well be something else going on. These are, in my opinion, cheap shots at Palin to cover up something else. But I’ve been at a loss as to exactly what that is. I assumed it was some sort of silly liberal rhetoric at first. But there was one reason that I hoped couldn’t possibly be the real reason for women hating Palin. Unfortunately, it may very well be the case. In fact, it’s exactly what Belinda Luscombe thinks. Check out this article.

Disclaimer: Please understand, again, I am not endorsing any political candidate or position. I do not want to argue about politics. Any comments about the story or the issue of women hating Palin can, will and should be discussed. But please, no comments about why someone should or shouldn’t vote for either of the main candidates in this election.

I see Luscombe’s point. Although I don’t hate Palin. I never want to see Hillary in the white house but that is because I don’t trust her not hate her.

I’m really flummoxed, both by your post and by the Time magazine article you referenced. Sure, in high school girls can certainly be “weapons-grade haters”. But thankfully, I can’t think of a woman I know who didn’t outgrow that.

I can only speak for myself, but the reason I personally am appalled by Palin (”hate” is far too strong a word here) is that she comes off as being a stupid bimbo. (She doesn’t have any foreign policy experience “because her parents weren’t rich and didn’t send her off to Europe with a backpack after she graduated”? This to her constitutes “foreign policy experience”?)

There are most certainly very intelligent, competent women in the highest levels of government both on the left and on the right (Nancy Pelosi, Condi Rice). Unfortunately Palin has made it clear that she’s not one of them. She was apparently chosen not because of her qualifications, but because of her appeal to a class of voters that McCain is trying to woo. Me, I agree with the McCain campaign insider who called the choice of Palin “cynical”. How sad it is that things have sunk this low.

When trying to refute the notion that grown women could act in the same manner as high school girls, one might refrain from calling others names and using phrases such as “stupid bimbo.” Just a thought.
