Master of Arts in Christian Ministries

A 48-60 hour degree program, dependent upon whether the individual has an appropriate religion major. This is the only master’s degree offered by AGTS which may be completed entirely at one of the branch campuses. Up to one-third of the required credits may be earned through distance learning courses (DLC) .

The Master of Arts in Christian Ministries (M.A.C.M) is designed to provide advanced biblical, theological and practical training for individuals who desire to enhance their ministry skills. It equips ministers to become life-long learners and to develop models of personal and professional growth. It differs from the M.Div. degree in that it provides no academic concentration which would prepare students for ongoing graduate degrees at the Ph.D. or D.Min. levels.

Master of Divinity In-Service Track

A 75-90 hour degree program, dependent upon the individual’s previous academic work (see M.Div. Reduction). One-third of the required credits must be taken at the main campus (this requirement may be satisfied by attending one-week modular classes, summer sessions or full-length semesters). Up to one-third of the required credits may be earned through distance learning courses .

The Master of Divinity (M.Div.) degree program is designed to form habits of theological reflection based on a deep sense of God's Mission in the world. These habits should result in serious commitment to the church and its mission. Such reflection begins with a vibrant encounter with God that creates a personal relationship of faith. Adequate theological reflection requires the acquisition of interpretive skills for understanding and living out the teachings of the Scriptures and learning from the collective experience of Christians in other times and places. Obviously, without a broad and integrated base of knowledge, students will not develop an integrated Christian worldview that makes enlightened theological reflection possible. Reflection, however, is not enough. Because AGTS desires to form organic intellectuals rather than arm-chair thinkers, theological reflection inherently involves thinking on one's feet in the course of ministerial activity. To make this kind of reflective action possible, students will develop creative practical ministry skills and the confidence to put them to work in ministry. Finally, and most importantly, students will devote themselves to spiritual formation that results in a lifetime of passionate, Spirit-filled service to God and neighbor. The M.Div. degree is also designed to prepare students fully for further graduate studies at the Ph.D. or D.Min. levels.

Distance Learning Courses (DLC)

Enables individuals to earn credits toward a graduate degree without traveling to any of the participating campuses. Participants study selected subjects through lectures on audio CD, video, DVD and online courses supplemented by directed reading and research assignments, under the direction of AGTS faculty mentors. As many as one-third of the required hours in any AGTS degree may be earned through DLC or directed research (fill out the Course Selection Form for DLC and directed research courses) (other advanced standing credit may limit the number of allowable hours).

Continuing Education Nondegree (Audit)

Courses taken on a noncredit basis, at one quarter the regular tuition rate, offer continuing education for individuals who do not wish to pursue a degree. Please note that courses audited cannot be changed to credit.

National Association of Church Business Administration

AGTS is a Certification Center (provisional status) for the National Association of Church Business Administration (NACBA) and offers seminars leading to certification by NACBA as a Fellow in Church Business Administration. By special arrangement, these seminars may also be taken for graduate credit at AGTS. For additional information on the NACBA certification program, contact the AGTS Continuing Education Office.
