Earning revenue from YouTube videos just got easier

We'd like to let you know about two recent improvements to video units that make them more easy and appealing to place on your sites. First, we've partnered with some new content providers that we'd like to highlight. These partners have signed on to let AdSense publishers embed their videos and share in the ad revenue.
Broadbandtv: "Broadbandtv is partnering with YouTube to bring the very best video program lineup to a growing and engaged online audience. Broadbandtv shows include hits from Fashion, Celebrity News, Sports, Technology, Comedy and Travel to top notch Spanish-language TV series like Somos Tu y Yo."
Canadian Broadcasting Corporation: "CBC/Radio-Canada is Canada's national public broadcaster and one of its largest cultural institutions. CBC/Radio-Canada is available how, where, and when Canadians want it."
The Orchard: "A global leader in digital music, video, new media and brand services, The Orchard offers family content like Gumby, Mr. Bill, My Favorite Martian, and other categories of content like music and comedy."
To give you a better idea of the videos that are available for syndication to your site, we've also created a gallery of some featured video units content partners. Note that to choose any of these content providers for your video unit, you should get their YouTube username by visiting their YouTube channel, and then put this username into the "Channel" field when choosing content for your unit.

Second, we're happy to announce that video units now support 728x90 and 160x600 formats to more easily fit into your site. These two new formats will feature five video thumbnails - when a user clicks on one of the thumbnails, a full sized video unit will appear, along with accompanying ads:

728x90 video unit

728x90 video unit, expanded

160x600 video unit, expanded

You'll generate earnings for valid clicks or impressions on the ads which appear. To use the new formats, you'll need to create new video units by visiting your AdSense Setup tab. To choose the new content for your video units, you can edit any of your players or set up new video units dedicated to this new content. Please keep in mind that video units are currently only supported for English or Japanese-language accounts in the following regions:
Australia, Canada, France, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland, Spain, United Kingdom, United States
Finally, if you haven't edited or made a new video unit recently, you may not have noticed that you can now preview the kinds of video that will show up in the unit, based on the filtering choices you've made. We heard that you wanted more insight into the types of content that would display, and we think this will help.

While you can use video units like any other ad, they're also a great addition to the content of your page. So we encourage you to use video units as you may have used embedded YouTube videos in the past - to add variety and interest for your users.

Thanks for all the feedback that's helping us to make video units more useful to you. If you have more thoughts to share, please leave us a comment.

We are a publisher and produce videos. We're based in South Africa. Can we offer ad space using AdSense on our videos and how would we go about it?

I have been trying to find a way to monetize on your video units for quite some time and just have been failing miserably. I can't say if this is going to help, but I can say what will.

There needs to be a better way to select videos on youtube. The way it is done now is quite clunky.

I have nearly given up on doing video units as traditional text/image boxes perform better.

I dont like to sound negative, but I am frustrated.

Happy July 4th to all!

Hi,

I keep getting the following message in youtube.com

Hello, healthtourism

Your account status is currently "PENDING"

Please login to AdSense, visit https://www.google.com/adsense/account-access
and click on the "grant access" link next to www.youtube.com.

When I get to my adsense account I do not see youtube.com there to
enable it.

This has been pending for months now. Any help would be
appreciated.

Glenn - thanks for the feedback about video selection. I've heard that elsewhere, as well - do you have any specific recommendations?

Also, for everyone wondering why we're only launched in certain countries and when we're rolling out to more: you may notice that we're launched in most of the same countries where YouTube has a local site. For various reasons, we are waiting for YouTube to launch in a country before we also enable video units. As for limiting languages, we only want to launch in languages where we have enough video content in that language which is eligible for the video units program. As the amount of eligible content gets to a "critical mass" in a certain language, we will open that up, and as always we think this plan makes for the best user and publisher experience. Thanks!

cant wait till it launches for other countries too. been awaiting to have a video unit long time already.

This is more attractive advertisement to reach more customers via video. That's mean nothing to lose when google bought youtube. It will more efficient if google team open widely to other region.

We in unlisted country will wait patiently. Hopefully all the publisher enjoy with.

Ryan,

The single biggest problem was the selection of videos that I wish to display. Let me give an example.

I login to my adsense account and do setup for new video unit. I give it a player name & description, pick my colors. Great so far!
Then I enter keywords, lets say the keywords are "leg exercises". Well hrm, now we have a problem. It doesn't really work that way in the channel area. In fact, as of today clicking the "Click to Preview Videos" just says no videos found.

But what is worse is the channels are quite worthless for my keyword "leg exercises".

HOWEVER - I can go do a search on you tube and find tons, but not in my youtube adsense setup. Look here:
http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=leg+exercises&search_type=&aq=0&oq=leg+exer

I should be able to select specific videos like those in that search result (which had 2,070 results).

Or better yet, just have adsense know I want all 2,070 and then you figure out through your statistics which monetize the best.

The current way to do things is really not usable and I hope my suggestions are of help.

Feel free to email me offline to discuss further as I think there is a lot of un-tapped potential here for my rich textual content sites by adding video.

Louis, we are in the same position having a large niche catalogue of video that we would like to make available so long as we can earn something. The 'pending' situation is frustrating but I guess a 'human' has to visit the site and look at the content first?

Totally agree with Glenn Ford. The video units simply do not perform as well as text ads and I have therefore given up on them. I guess Google has to figure out a better way for publishers to choose video content and monetize these ads. It is no brainer that surfers want to watch videos and we want to get paid in advertising but this is not working.

I want to try this, has anyone gotten any results yet? IE... how much do you get on these.

Hi,

when will video unit ads available in India and china?

just please inform me when you support video ads unit in india and china.

I also posted this on google groups. We need a smaller single unit. 300px-350px. I sure some other folks would also like something even smaller.

Somebody above also commented on the not-so-good keyword search. I saw the same behavior. I get videos if searching on youtube but nothing when setting up the adsense player.

i can anyone tell me if you can put adsense into a google site

K.V.S.S. said...

The video unit lay out is not attractive. There should be some words below each clip that says something about the clip. Some attractive statements like enjoy the music of "some body" or enjoy the dance of "some body" or listen to the speech of "some body" Learn "some skills" etc. below each video clip. Decrease the number of clips in the block but provide text to inform what is in the video

when i started using video units, the ads that played with the videos in the player were correctly targeting my site. NOW, i just noticed they are targeting the videos content NOT my site content - this renders them USELESS for ads. what is the point of this change?

(also, why did i spend my time writing this to your help center, when i just got a reply saying that i WILL NOT get a reply that addresses my issue? why even allow sending a help message if you have already decided you won't reply!)
