Flickr Easy Photo Post

A few tools already exist [1] to post photos into comments on Flickr.com, but they all need you to cut and paste some obscure code snippet.

This is hardly practical when you want to post more than one photo, can be prone to error and well, didn’t fully suit me.

Yet Another Way To Post Photo In Comments | 2 March 2007, by Mortimer

So, as usual, I open my little code editor, loaded the greasemonkey template and started hacking Flickr.

This script will remember the 15 last photos [2] you have visited and display their thumbnail over every comment box on Flickr.

Get Firefox Install GreaseMonkey restart Firefox If you liked the script, think about helping me back and consider a small donation, click the paypal button on the right. Click on the following icon and select "Install"
greasemonkey - 10 kb
3582 download(s) since 25 July 2007

You can select the size you want to post and then click on the thumbnail of the photo of interest to insert the obscure voOdOo code in the comment field. You can repeat that for all the photos you want, and you are done.

So how would you use it?

visit the photo you want to post somewhere else, go to the discussion where you want to post, click on "Post a photo...", select the size, click on the thumbnail of the shot you want, post the comment.

Make a Donation

5 user(s) have already donated around 4.3£ each to this project, why not do the same?

Donation don't have to be big to make a difference. I already received donations ranging from 0.50£ to 10£ and all of them made me happy. Think of it, if the thousand users of these tools made a small donation, it would not make a big difference to them, but it would to me.

You will probably enjoy using what you download from this website and if so, you can decide to make a donation. Making a donation is optional but will help to develop new tools and support the existing code.

All the software, scripts and other tools distributed on this web site are distributed under open source licenses and are available to download for free. Making the code free and available to all doesn't means it's of lower quality. The tools provided here are fully functional and their author invested some of his personal time to develop them and provide support to their users.

Think about it.

P.S.

If you opened a photo in another tab and it doesn’t appear in the list of thumbnails, try reloading the photo page, then the discussion page.

If you are interested in using this on Ipernity, please go and check: Ipernity Easy Photo Post. Note that I am not the creator or maintainer of the Ipernity script.

There’s something alot easyer, when you watch your photo, then click on the semi-transparent icon "Share this" rigt below the search bar. when you click on it, a menu appeares. then click Embed it, and copy the text, Voila!

But that will only work with your own pics..

There appears to be a bug in this script; it’s adding an extra / to the URL in the link added to the photo.

This can be corrected by editing line 171 to remove the / after "www.flickr.com"

I have greasemonkey and the script installed but I don’t see the "add photo to ..." link when I visit a discussion group? When I check the script via "Manager user scripts" it says it’s enabled and seems to have the correct list of URLs. Any ideas why this is not working for me?

Ok, it seems to be working for me. You know you have to visit the photo you want to post, and then go back to where you want to post it for it to appear in the list (and if the list is empty, then post photo won’t appear).
If you had the group discussion open in another tab when you did that, you probably need to reload the page to get the thing updated.

I think I’m doing everything correctly as far as how to use it? Is there a way for me to tell whether it’s an empty list (which I wouldn’t expect since I’m looking at valid photos) or not? Is there something that I can check in my setup or system configuration? Does it make a difference that I’m running Firefox on a MAC?

Are you using a MAC by any chance? Has anyone gotten this to work on MAC OSX with firefox?

I am using a MAC with OS X 10.4 and Firefox >2.0 and it works fine for me.

Could you open:

disable all of the greasemonkey script you have except this one, Firefox javascript console, (tools>error console) clear the content of the console, go to a flickr photo page and see what errors show up in the console.
