SXSW Photo Policy
All press must register for an official SXSW Photo Pass to use a camera to take photos for publication. This SXSW Photo Pass must be affixed to your camera at all times. You must have both a SXSW badge and a SXSW Photo Pass to gain access to SXSW events. To be considered for a SXSW Photo Pass, please email interpress@sxsw.com.
How do I obtain a Photo Pass for SXSW Interactive?
To be considered for a SXSW Interactive Photo Pass, contact interpress@sxsw.com and outline what publication you work for and what SXSW Interactive events you want to take photos of. You will hear back about your status within the business week.
What does a SXSW Interactive Photo Pass entitle me to?
Only people with a Photo Pass affixed to their camera can take photos from the press area.
I want to take pictures for my blog. Do I need a Photo Pass for this?
Personal digital cameras are allowed at the event. And, you do not need a Photo Pass to take a photo of the given panel from your seat. If, however, you would like to take a photo from the designated photo area, you will need to apply for Photo Pass credentials.
Can I simply show up at the Austin Convention Center if I haven't requested a Photo Pass ahead of time?
We strongly recommend that you request a badge ahead of time so you won't be disappointed if you aren't granted a pass.
What happens after I apply for a Photo Pass?
You will be notified via email within two weeks. If you are granted a Photo Pass, please bring the camera you will be using to take photos with to the press booth located inside the Austin Convention Center after you’ve picked up your badge. Your photo pass will be attached to your camera and cannot be removed for the duration of the event.
How do I request a Photo Pass for SXSW Film and/or Music?
For other Photo Pass credentials, you've come to the wrong place. To request other credentials, email Elizabeth Derczo at press@sxsw.com.
